True 40x and RC2

Recommended Posts

Hey I have build 2128 and every time that I plug in my Hi-Val (Kenwood) True40x IDE CD-ROM my PC will not boot into win2k. It just sits there and the HDD light blinks in a pattern,

my system works fine with out the CD ROM and the CDROM worked great in 98 and in WinNT 4.x

Here is my system:

A-Bit BH6 motherboard

128 Kingston RAM

WesternDigital 3.0gig ( Pri Master )

WesternDigital 2.5gig ( Pri Slave )

True40x CDROM ( Sec Master )

Creative Banchee Video Card

Creative SBLive Value

3com 3c905-b 10/100 NIC

and Logitec FirstMouse+

I have not flashed the BIOS for the abit board ro the CDROM ( kinda afraid too )

If I'm not wrong then that drive has (had) problems with Win2k. U r not the 1st one. I'm not sure how they guy solved it... I think he just got a new drive or something. Check hardware comapatibility page and posts.

Maybe flashing it ya board with latest bios will help. Also try hooking it up on the ATA66 controller.

I'd strongly suggest flashing ya bios. (If u follow ABIT instructions u shouldn't kill ya board)

Igor the Abit BH6 dosen't have a ATA66 nor dose Abit BH6R2.

I try flashing the CDROM Frist then Boot in to Win2K if didn't work then do your mother board BIOS.

First off, this drive is fundamentally flawed. Second, flashing the new firmware did not help. And third, I got around it by using the atapi.sys from beta3. Apparently they changed some timeout values in more recent atapi.sys and the drive locks it up.

Doing it is no piece of cake though because of the way W2K protects and automatically replaces its base drivers with standard copies.

You guy ROCK! ! ! !

Flashing the BIOS on the CD ROM worked like a champ,Just pluged it in and ran the flash program, rebooted went into RC2! So now I am back to ripping CD using Audiocatalist and enjoying the 7-beam loving

thanx
