RoGuE 0 Posted November 28, 1999 i recently purchased a ALR autobahn isdn router....it says to use a communication proggy with vt-100 emulation to configure it. when i connect to the router all i get is a window with characters scrolling across it...im using hyper terminal to access it. if there are any networking guru's in the group id really appreciate the help...this is my first attempt at configuring a router and i must have something configured wrong in hyper terminal to have it giving me this window....it should come up with a configuration menu...any help would be much appreciated. SHS 0 Posted November 28, 1999 did you change hyper terminal protocol to used VT100 ?. If that didn't work try VT100J [This message has been edited by SHS (edited 28 November 1999).] Share this post Link to post
RoGuE 0 Posted November 28, 1999 ill try the vt-100j but it specifically says to use vt-100....my buddy thinks that the router is defective but im not convinced that it is...it boots up and all the lights come on without any errors...it is used though...so maybe the previous settings are interfering with the setup screen...dont know to much about em. RoGuE 0 Posted November 28, 1999 okay the vt-100j didnt work either....im sure its something that im overlooking.... Share this post Link to post
SHS 0 Posted November 28, 1999 Try this in setting under vt100 terminal setup under character set change to special graphis. What the Home page of the isdn router. have you try Win98 or a diff terminal apps. Try here there are a few free one http://winfiles.cnet.com/apps/98/terminals.html Share this post Link to post
RoGuE 0 Posted November 29, 1999 well i tried the special characters and no go...i guess since this router is used it wont let me access the setup menu.....im dl another communication proggy to try again with it.... Share this post Link to post
OneHotRS 0 Posted November 29, 1999 Most modern ISDN routers are Web configured. If you know it's IP address you can type that into your browser and it will take you to it's setup page. However, some of the older ones still require a console connection. When you connect through HyperTerm, what is your baud/data/parity/stop/flow control settings? Standard is 9600 Baud / 8 Data bits / No Parity / 1 Stop Bit / NO Flow Control. Try that. Share this post Link to post
RoGuE 0 Posted November 29, 1999 the only thing i can figure is that the serial cable i bought at radio shack is mislabeled...is there a difference between RS-232 and RS-232C cables? the bood says that i need a RS-232 and i bought a RS-232C...maybe thats the problem. Share this post Link to post
RoGuE 0 Posted November 29, 1999 oh. and yes you were correct on the stop, start bits and the baud rate.... Share this post Link to post
SHS 0 Posted November 29, 1999 are both end DB9 or do you have DB9 with DB25 Share this post Link to post
RoGuE 0 Posted November 29, 1999 yes they are both db9. the guy at radio shack told me that there is no difference between RS-232C and the RS-232, so im at a loss here Share this post Link to post
SHS 0 Posted November 29, 1999 That rigth there no diff difference between RS-232C & RS-232 DB9 & DB9 that why I ask but the DB9 & DB25 do have a small difference Maybe this Help http://isdn.alr.com/autobahnFAQ.htm#3.1 3. Trouble Shooting 3.1 Q. When I attach my AUTOBAHN to my PC via serial port and start my terminal program (i.e., Hyper Terminal), I get random ASCII characters instead of the menu. A. Check the terminal programs settings (properties). The terminal program should have NO FLOW CONTROL 9600 BAUD 8 BITS NO PARITY 1 STOP BIT VT100 EMULATION After you have made changes to the settings you will need to press CTRL-L to redrawn the screen. If the terminal program is still getting random ASCII characters instead of the menu, close then restart the terminal program. If it still gets random ASCII characters, the Autobahn’s baud rate may be set to either 19200, or 38400. Try changing the port speed of your terminal emulation program to one or the other.
