pmistry 0 Posted August 17, 2002 I've been trying to setup ME's ICS feature, got a PC with 2 LAN devices, 1 USB and 1 PCI, PCI card is for the home network (2 PC's) and the USB one hooks to the cable modem. I can share files between the 2 PC's without a problem. The problem happens after I setup ICS and run through the wizard, the system restarts with a system halted message and a BSOD. Uninstalling ICS in Safe Mode cures the problem, reinstalling ICS again causes the BSOD, does it have something to do with a USB LAN? Cuz after the BSOD I can continue into Windows but nothing is really running properly and my USB mouse doesn't work. Anybody else have this issue with WinMe? Please no sly remarks about Me's stability, I know all about it, just need to get this PC and another one running 98 SE sharing an Internet connection. Share this post Link to post
Admiral LSD 0 Posted August 17, 2002 Dude. Find a cheap computer system (it doesn't have to be anything fancy, a 486DX4-100 with 32Mb RAM will do the job just fine), install Linux on it and learn how to set up iptables masquerading/firewalling. Works a treat. Another option is to use a dedicated router. I've heard good things about the Linksys models. Both will work heaps better than ICS. Share this post Link to post
bobbinbrisco 0 Posted September 4, 2002 The best solution to sharing the internet on any network is to use Sygate Home/Office Network. Go here and download it http://soho.sygate.com/products/gate_ov.htm Share this post Link to post
pmistry 0 Posted September 4, 2002 Thanks for the link, I figured out the problem with it, apparently its a bug in ME. To get it working correctly the first identified network adapter in your PC must be the one connecting to the Internet and the seond one connects the Home LAN. I simply switched the plugs. PCI card is my first one while my USB is the second one. Share this post Link to post
