WB_BlackWolf 0 Posted August 25, 2002 Okay, here's the deal, I've seen both yes and no that Windows NT 4.0 will support the following games... Civilization 3 MechWarrior IV: Vengeance Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear Empire Earth Max Payne Operation Flashpoint Can anyone help me to know if I'm getting my chain jerked around? Thanks Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted August 26, 2002 Civilization 3 - YES MechWarrior IV: Vengeance = NO Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear = Unsure...Most likely not. Haven't tested tet. Empire Earth = NO Max Payne = NO Operation Flashpoint = NO Share this post Link to post
felix 0 Posted August 26, 2002 Basic rule is: OpenGL - YES DirectX - NO (However if it's an old game that only requires DX3a it should work). You can try using setwin95.cmd to make stuff install if it thinks that it only works on Win95. Share this post Link to post
pmistry 0 Posted August 26, 2002 Yeah forget running Direct3D games on Windows NT 4.0 it just won't work. OpenGL will work but sound sucks because of the lack of DirectSound support. Share this post Link to post
Four and Twenty 0 Posted August 26, 2002 why are you worried about NT 4 game compatability? I mean why would anyone want to game on NT now that 2k and XP are here? Some people are just gluttons for pain i guess. Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted August 26, 2002 Some people may be stuck with NT4 at work. Share this post Link to post

Here's the Rub, my current rig is a company computer from my father's office which is dated by two years now, he's now getting a new one from his office, but it's coming installed with Win NT because it's Company standard until his company is still screwing around with putting Windows XP Professional through beta testing with their software and servers, so for a while, I'm stuck with Windows NT(I run Win95 currently) Thx for the folks. pmistry 0 Posted August 27, 2002 No offense but even Win95 is a pain with current titles and current hardware drivers, but if your system is 2 years old I don't think it will matter that much. Share this post Link to post

Win 95 still has better compatibility for gaming than NT by a wide margin and by dated I mean it stopped being useful for games 2 years ago unless they were low-power strategy stuff and the like, my system is 5 years old. Thanks for help all, oh and what about Red Alert 2 and Deus Ex? Another couple of titles I own and love, but worry about when the time comes. Share this post Link to post
felix 0 Posted August 28, 2002 Deus Ex should be fine. OpenGL and wave sound should be fine. However the advantages of USB mousing in gameplay cannot be under-rated. Share this post Link to post

Four and Twenty 0 Posted August 28, 2002 I definatly still see a place for NT4 out there but 95 is crap. I am probably more than a little bias due to haveing fast hardware and all the latest betas/RCs from MS so pay no attention to my ramlblings. Share this post Link to post
