Mekadave 0 Posted September 3, 2002 Hi, I hope to gather some opinions and info here. I've finally decided to bite the bullet, ditch my Voodoo 4 4500 and get something made by Nvidia. (Decision hastened by the 3dfx corrupted menus bug in NASCAR 4 and NASCAR 2002. Grrrr...) ;( Unfortunately, I have a limited budget, in and around the $100 range. What would be more desirable between a GeForce 3 Ti200 and a GeForce 4 MX440? They're roughly the same in price now. Both have 64MB of DDR RAM, a 400mhz memory clock, 6.4GB/s memory bandwidth. Any advantages one would have over the other? Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Share this post Link to post
BladeRunner 0 Posted September 3, 2002 I'd take the GF3 Ti200 over any card with MX in the name. All of the MX's are gutted, all the best parts of the card removed so it is sold as a budget solution. The GF3 Ti200 is a full blown card. I'm sure others will offer different suggestions though. Share this post Link to post
pmistry 0 Posted September 3, 2002 GeForce 3 Ti200 all the way, or perhaps consider an ATI offering the 8500LE/128MB DDR is real cheap too and works great on my system, good drivers as well. Share this post Link to post
JP- 0 Posted September 3, 2002 Of those 2, ti200 easily, but im sure you could find a Radeon 8500 or Radeon 9000 for not much money. The ti200, authough it clocks well isnt exactly fast at its stock speeds. Share this post Link to post
CyberGenX 0 Posted September 4, 2002 Albatron GeForce 4 Ti 4200 128MB DDR for $144 off of www.pricewatch.com want the exact link? Share this post Link to post
Mekadave 0 Posted September 4, 2002 Yes, please, that would be greatly appreciated! Share this post Link to post
CyberGenX 0 Posted September 4, 2002 It's now $140.00 http://www.buyxtremegear.com/algef4ti4212.html Share this post Link to post
BladeRunner 0 Posted September 4, 2002 Well if I'd know your budget was $140 and not the originally quoted $100 then I too would have made such a suggestion Near 50% increase in budget does kind of make your choice wider. Share this post Link to post
Mekadave 0 Posted September 4, 2002 Hehe... you're right, it is a bit higher. I just didn't even bother to look at the 4 Series Ti cards, as I thought them WAY out of my price range, like $100 higher. (I should really know better than to assume. ) $140 with free shipping is in striking distance, though, so I'll just take a couple more weeks to get the cash together. It's worth it, for that card. Thanks for the help, everyone. Share this post Link to post
CyberGenX 0 Posted September 4, 2002 I had to order that card last night, just couldn't bare to see it not get purchased by me. It is such a sweet deal....can't wait to see it in the mail. Share this post Link to post

adamvjackson 0 Posted September 10, 2002 Good choices, I have a Geforce4 Ti4400, and it rocks.. I just hope that Doom 3 will be "playable" on this card... At an acceptable quality/resolution anyway... Share this post Link to post
CyberGenX 0 Posted September 10, 2002 Any day now I should get it.... :x Can't wait. My woman get's the GTS, a nice upgrade from a Voodoo 4 4500 32MB. Share this post Link to post
adamvjackson 0 Posted September 10, 2002 The GTS really isn't a bad card, I have a Geforce2 ti in my secondary system... Granted, no pixel shaders, but it's a good card, you can pick them up for about $50 US new... Share this post Link to post
