Receiving Phone Calls Through Headset

Recommended Posts

no one seems to be able to answer this.

I want to hook my headset/microphone setup so that I can receiving calls through my 56k modem, like call centres do, except without having to put a headset in a phone itself.

Is there a way to do this, say with a piece of software or something?

Thanks

Perhaps net-2-phone can to something like that... Honestly, IMO, I wouldn't recommend your setup, though. I don't think the sound quality will be very good, keep in mind that in addition to transferring the audio, there are data packets too. I think it's a bandwidth issue, here. Anyway, I'd give net-2-phone a shot. I think that there may be a way to do that with Microsoft's NetMeeting, too. Unsure about that, though. Good Luck.

even you don't get it, lol.

All I want is that when a call is incoming, I want it to travel through the phone line, and in to a headset, rather than picking up a receiver to speak.

It isn't a matter of having an internet connection or not. It's just a matter of having a phone line.

So what you want to do is just plug a headset into the passthrough port on the back of the modem rather than a whole phone, and when the phone rings, click a button on your desktop (or the modem autoanswers or whatever)and the phone picks up and you talk as normal...?

Nope, can't say I've heard of anything like that. You may want to look at some headset manufacturers such as Plantronics or GN Netcom to see if they do something suitable...

Well I know this won't be any help but yes you can do it. I use to have my comp set up that way years back and the quality was just as good as being on the phone but I can't for the life of me remember the name of the software I used for it and I don't have the diskettes anymore.

if it comes back to me I will repost to let you know and yes it was quite handy.
