Tomay 0 Posted October 7, 2002 I had this problem since w95. I have two computers connected with a lan. I'm using compex RL2000 cards which use a Winbond 89C940 chip and XP recognizes them so. The problem is when I try to copy a file from one computer to another the system from which I'm copying from slows down big time (even the mouse has a few second lag). After the copying is finished everything is back to normal. I tried bnc and utp no difference. When I play games everything is normal. Only copying and opening files causes this problem. I replaced the RL2000 card with an old isa and there were no problems at all. I've heard something about MRU and maximum multicast, but I can't set them anywhere. Is there a way to set them in the register? I also tried different drivers (microsoft, compex, winbond...) all the same. It also makes no difference w95, w98 or XP. I use only tcp/ip with a static ip. Any Ideas if there is something else I could set or try. I seems like the problem occurs when the card is using full bandwith ;( ? Please help! adamvjackson 0 Posted October 7, 2002 OK, I rather suspect it may be a limitation of your nic, but here's something fairly quick and easy to try before you go nic shopping. In the folder options in Windows Explorer, look for an option to open each window in a new process. Select that, and restart windows. If there is no improvement, then what I suspect is that similar to a winmodem, the nic you have is almost entirely software driven and system processor dependant. If that's the case, you'll need to get a high-end nic, such as an intel or 3com. The isa nic that you tried is not dependant on the os, that's why there were no problems. Share this post Link to post
