MuD 0 Posted December 19, 1999 I was wondering... When I boot up to win2k 2195, my fan that cools my processor and powerbox suddenly stops. It will occasionally start back up ever so often for about 1-2 minutes and then goes back off again. Is this normal? I dont want my computer to overheat. Thankz for your time. bkehoe 0 Posted December 19, 1999 Seems to be just part of the ACPI feature. The same happens in modern laptops. E.G. my Gateway Solo laptop's fan will come on when I run RC5 on it, while it usually stays off if RC5 isn't run. I don't know how you could keep the fan on, other than making the processor run hot by playing a game or running RC5, CSC, e.t.c. Brendan Share this post Link to post
Seldzar 0 Posted December 19, 1999 RC5?...what exactly is rc5?.......if your referring to windows 2000 there is no such thing. Theres rc3 2183 then 2195 and 2195.1 and 2195.3 I personally have 2195.3 Share this post Link to post
chameleon 0 Posted December 19, 1999 if you can go into your bios settings at startup, there is a feature which controls the fan. not too many options, but thats how it is on my Abit BX-R rev2.01 so dont know what mobo your running but playing around with some settings in there might help as well as the ACPI settings in win2k. chameleon kyoshiro Share this post Link to post
bkehoe 0 Posted December 19, 1999 Guess not everyone has heard of Distributed.net's RC5 contest after it's 2 years of running. start at www.distributed.net . I'm on the SysOpt team - www.sysopt.com/rc5team.html - those pages explain it better. Also, and addition - the dnet RC5 client uses 100% of the free CPU cycles, so that is why I was referring to it as it heats up processors. Brendan Share this post Link to post
