another XP 98 QUESTION

heres what i got:

laptop running 98SE

desktop running XP

 

both in same workgroup

both can see eachother in the net.hood

everything is fine right?

 

question is:

sometimes they dont "talk/see" eachother, and it takes a couple refreshes, sometimes even 10-20 minutes for it to finally just pop up in the net. hood. why is that?

 

is it b/c my crossover cable could have a bad connection/wiring, or something wrong with my hardware? it works sometimes, but sometimes it doesnt cooperate. how do i get around this?

its just networking between NT and 9x sux . i dunno how to fix it. so i upgraded all my machines to win2k. but i guess u could try netbui or another protocol.
