Dual processor Question...

Recommended Posts

If I get an Abit BP6 MB and another 366 processor....will I be assured that I can run a Dual system with Win2k.

I would hate to spend the money and it not work.

I have recently read that microshaft(ehhh...microsoft) has disabled this.

Thanks

100% B.S. MS can't *disable* that, only intel can. I have duel 366's running at 571mhz and all is good.

The question here is... Will BP6 support ANYTHING past celeron. I'd wait and see if flip chips would run on BP6 before I buy it. Some other company, I can't remember which, makes same board same as BP6 but they claim The new generation of Celerons will work on it. I belive they mentioned that board a while ago at www.hardocp.com but don't quote me on that.

I'd recommend getting a dual Slot 1 rather than Socket370 mobo.

It is far more likely that you'll get a slocket adapter that will support flip-chips than you will for socket370->flipchip - in fact I think Iwill already have one out.

Also the existing slockets for regular Celerons work a treat - I have 2 in my SuperMicro P6DBS with 300a's @ 450.

Seldzar, I am sorry I meant intel not Microsoft...but I am glad to hear that it will work. What kind of MB are you using.

Igor, what is a flip chip...is this the new celeron processor that is supposed to be having a 100mhz clock instead of the 66?

Yuppie, can you reccommend a good slot 1 dual processor for around $150? I think a supramicro is to pricey for me.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I'm using the Bp6 and quite happy with 2 550's =)

571 was jsut a tad too unstable....ran fine for over an entire day however Unreal Tournament killed them at that speed =)

Don't know any mobo's off-hand, but http://www.tyan.com have a good rep - hit their site, then hit http://www.pricewatch.com

Also, in general it's a bad thing to o/c such that AGP/PCI busses run at greater than 66/33Mhz - which is what happens with odd FSBs and no correction in BIOS. It's usually what causes crashes when playing games - no a CPU failure at all, but a vid-card/bus failure.
