pr-man 1 Posted November 3, 2002 Well I just installed win2k and installed SP3 and then went through the fiasco of downloading and instaling the new promise driver to fix the conflict between my ultra100tx2 and SP3. Well now all is done but I am getting hiccups in audio when playing mp3's and I never had this with my TB Santa cruz before under xp or win2k. I ran XP in ACPI and that is what I am running Win2k in right now. Does Win2k have a problem with ACPI? I know when i ran ACPI under XP it rarely showed any of my hardware sharing the same IRQ. Under win2k I have like 6 or 7 pieces of hardware on IRQ 11. Any ideas? Share this post Link to post

DosFreak 2 Posted November 3, 2002 Sigh. There's nothing wrong with ACPI in 2K. Your devices are supposed to be "sharing IRQ's" with ACPI. That's how ACPI works. Well not really since they are not really sharing IRQ's....It's complicated and I do not have time to explain. If I find time I'll post an article or two about it or you can search around with www.google.com. Have you tried using the same drivers that you were using under XP under 2K? Different driver revisions make all the difference....newer is not necessarily better. Share this post Link to post
pr-man 1 Posted November 3, 2002 Dos I understand how ACPI works, i was not questioning that. Im just trying to figure out why my audio is stuttering slightly when i play Mp3 files or other audio. Im using the same Santa Cruz drivers I used under XP Share this post Link to post
pr-man 1 Posted November 3, 2002 I have since reinstalled win2k without ACPI and I am still getting the slight stuttering. I wonder if it is the ultra100tx2 promist controller driver that I had to update because of the problem with SP3? Also what is the best way to make sure that ata-100 is working under win2k pro? DosFreak 2 Posted November 3, 2002 Unfortunately I do not have a Santa Cruz...I remember when I was using my GameTheater that I had to always use the latest beta drivers I could find from various companies so that I could get rid of various problems...hehehe. Not sure what the situation is nowdays. Are the controller card and the audio card sitting next to each other? This is also an AMD chipset.....I'm not aware of any issues with the Epox and the Santa Cruz but I've never used this combination before... Also try altering the PCI settings in your BIOS. Could possibily fix your problem...specifically "PCI Delay Transaction". Share this post Link to post

As Windows 2000 & Windows XP share some 90-95% of the same code, there is absolutely no difference between the way ACPI works under the two OS's. So, if ACPI under Windows 2000 is "Gay"? then I'm afraid ACPI under Windows XP would be "gay" too. However, as the system under both OS's works flawlessly and enables you to run a computer system without having to worry about which devices can and cannot share IRQ's, DMA's etc it is far from being "gay". Well, can you think of any other explanation as to why I only have a minimum of IRQ sharing under XP wheras just about everything shared the same IRQ under 2000? Share this post Link to post
