I need help please

Recommended Posts

;(

Ok, please dont think that this is weird but I built a comp recently which was relatively easy, mind you I had a friend advising me. It is a ASUS pet 4, 2.4gig - 80 gig h/d, 512 ddr ram and running Windows XP and has ADSL. There is a second network card waiting to be hooked up to my second computer with is running Windows 98. I am using a crossover cable to hook the two.

My problem is how do I go about configuring the two machines so that the machine with 98 can use the ADSL line.

I really dont have great computer knowledge but it was great fun building the comp for fun.

So if anyone is kind enough to help me out, it would be appreciated

All you do is open up the network connections, right-click on the ADSL connection and go to properties, and on the advanced tab you will see internet connection sharing.

BTW, I would recommend a hub instead of connecting them directly. If nothing else, this will eliminate the annoying "network cable unplugged" message when the Win98 box is turned off...

Thanx CUViper

So far I have connected the crossover cable, I have run the XP setup network disc on the 98 machine and I have shared the ADSL connection on the XP machine.

They are still not seeing each other...so I am not sure what else to look for, could if be the second network card addresses??

In order to make the computer running 98 'compatible' with the one running XP all you have to do is put the XP cd in the machine running 98. Then install the networking components from there.

Then just run the home networking wizard and that should work.

Hope that helps you

Verify that the 98 machine is on the same subnet and that it has your internet computer's IP in it's DNS setting. Then dial to the internet on the XP computer. Go to the 98 computer and try to resolve dns. (ping -a www.google.com). If you can do that then you should have internet connectivity.
