Jim.Fellows 0 Posted November 12, 2002 I am about to order 3 new PCs with XP Pro loaded. Should I expect any problems when connecting to my office network which has a Windows NT 4.0 server ? Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted November 12, 2002 IIRC, there may be a bug with read/write speed to NT4 Server's. I migght be thinking of something else tho. Other than that everything's fine! Share this post Link to post

adamvjackson 0 Posted November 12, 2002 Actaully it will depend on if the domain is running static IPs or dynamic, correct? Share this post Link to post
clutch 1 Posted November 12, 2002 That's DHCP client, not DNS client. DNS is for name resolution, and yes you're gonna need it. Share this post Link to post
adamvjackson 0 Posted November 12, 2002 It look like I am going to have to start drinking more coffee, earlier, so I can fully pay attention to what I am reading... Share this post Link to post
Jerry Atrik 0 Posted November 12, 2002 there is a problem with nt server and xp clients where the xp dns client get stuck in a loop even to the point of stalling the computer a little. so i killed the dns client on the xp boxes and the whole network is working better because the xp boxes arent flooding the dns servers. xp clients do not need the dns client service active. set it to manual Share this post Link to post
clutch 1 Posted November 12, 2002 I was going by the definition of DNS client here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treevie...cs/win2ksvc.asp But if it works for you without it, then cool. I wouldn't disable it (nor many of the services) myself though. Just never had the need. Share this post Link to post
duhmez 0 Posted November 18, 2002 Homeboy needs dns client for internet. Share this post Link to post
Jerry Atrik 0 Posted November 18, 2002 thats odd my dns client is off right now maybe im not really here Share this post Link to post
clutch 1 Posted November 18, 2002 Have you actually disabled them completely? It could be that it is still running and not reporting it properly. Setting it to manual still allows the service to be launched. Share this post Link to post
Jerry Atrik 0 Posted November 19, 2002 good point i just disabled and rebooted still seems ok ill disable at home and see if there is a difference there. Share this post Link to post
