adamvjackson 0 Posted November 15, 2002 I'd pass, just get yourself the Anti-Virus... The utilities seem sub-par with others on the market, except Norton Ghost which is only available in the professional SystemWorks package. Share this post Link to post
Christianb 8 Posted November 17, 2002 I will agree with that Ghost and NAV are the only two components worth a damn. I like VCOM (Formerly Ontrack, Formerly Mijenix) SystemSuite's utilties better. SystemSuite 4.0. Their virus scanner signatures are always free indefinetly (well okay maybe one day, but I've used 3+ year old versions with out issue). You can Virus Scan, ScanDisk, and Degrag all your drives in about 3 steps, you just check a few boxes click go and it'll do all three without stopping! Actually it can do more than that at once, but those are typically what I use. Their undeleter is also more thorough than Norton's. You can also turn of the recycle bin protection and it'll physically restore a file your FAT Table. -Christian Share this post Link to post
Christianb 8 Posted November 17, 2002 I should also note that I've never used SystemSuite 4.0 and currenlty have SystemSuite 3.0 and before that I had SystemSuite 2000, and before that Fix-It. This suite also has a file manager called power desk which has a freeware Light version you can try out. Size manager is also excellent and lists folders on all your drives by their respective size, and then what files are inside of it. This is really helpful if you're trying to consolidate. You can see where all your disk space is going: giant evil black hole!. Share this post Link to post
bobbinbrisco 0 Posted November 17, 2002 personally i wouldnt use any of the so called utility programs. all you need is a virus scanner. using any other program does more harm than good, it may only be helpful if you install them after a fresh-install of windows. these programs go deep inside the operating system and if one of the programs fail your whole system comes down too. the system utilities that comes with windows are just fine no need for any extra programs (maybe a registry cleaner can help).
