Marktait 0 Posted November 18, 2002 Im gonna buy a dual athlon mp system and was wondering if the 2200+ Athlon MP is 0.13 or not? and also if there is a 2400+ or above out yet? Thanx guyz Share this post Link to post
adamvjackson 0 Posted November 18, 2002 I believe all of the Athlon XP/MP series processors are currently manufactured based upon the 0.13 micron process. Share this post Link to post
Marktait 0 Posted November 19, 2002 The 1700+/1800+/1900+ XP's are definatley under 0.18 micron, i dont know wther AMD changed to 0.13 at 2000+ or something? Share this post Link to post
CyberGenX 0 Posted November 19, 2002 From what I have been told be at least 10 people now is that XP cpus will do multi-processing but are not certified. MP processors ARE certified for mp environments. You technically could use two XP cpus on a dual board. I don't know what the outcome is though... Share this post Link to post
Immortal 0 Posted November 19, 2002 the MP CPU is just an XP CPU with its L5 bridges joint! All you have to do with an Athlon XP is to join he L5 bridges! Share this post Link to post
Marktait 0 Posted November 19, 2002 Anyone know of a tutorial/How to online that shows you getting 2 Athlon Xp's Dualing? Share this post Link to post
CyberGenX 0 Posted November 19, 2002 From what I have heard you just put them both on a dual board and in the bios make sure (if avail.) that the option to identify the cpus for MP is enabled. Share this post Link to post
adamvjackson 0 Posted November 19, 2002 There's a video on Tom's Hardware that shows how to join the L5 bridges, thereby unlocking the multiplier. I do not know if this also enables the XP processor to be used MP. Share this post Link to post
CyberGenX 0 Posted November 19, 2002 What's the point of unlocking the Multiplier, aside to OC? The last thing you want is 2 unstable CPUs. Share this post Link to post
adamvjackson 0 Posted November 19, 2002 Supposedly, by joining the L5 bridges, this allows the bios to detect the board as a MP processor. I've never heard this, and highly doubt it's true. Share this post Link to post
CyberGenX 0 Posted November 19, 2002 If I enable the MP ID Detect in my BIOS on my old Epox board it detects it (cpu) from there and in Windows as an MP and not an XP. Share this post Link to post
adamvjackson 0 Posted November 19, 2002 What board model and BIOS revision do you have? Share this post Link to post
CyberGenX 0 Posted November 19, 2002 I am at work but I believe it is the Epox 8K7A+, not sure on the Rev. But it was at the latest bios last time I checked (6 months ago). Although it is not a dual board, it still detected my XP 1800+ as an MP1800+ with just one flick of the bios option. Share this post Link to post
Marktait 0 Posted November 19, 2002 If the Asus A7M266-D motherbaord can handle a single Athlon XP2400+ it should see 2 as MP2400+ if i get these unlocked? Anyone know of a better board that will see it as an MP instead of XP with one setting change? Id rather buy a board that definatley can see xp as mp and spend a few pound more. Immortal 0 Posted November 20, 2002 Come on guys THINK!!! L1 bridges are for Multiplier unlocking!!! L5 bridges are for MP's. The athlon XP IS the Athlon MP without the L5 bridges joined. uts have a look for a tutorial. If you connect L5 bridges the CPU will NOT become unlocked. Share this post Link to post
Marktait 0 Posted November 20, 2002 In my last post i ment by unlocking the XP's to MP capable by connecting the L5 Bridge. Sorry to cause any confusion Share this post Link to post
