Windows XP Installation

Recommended Posts

I did a clean install of XP onto a newly formatted c:. Installation works fine but when I get to the screen that says "Please use the next few minutes to configure Windows"(translated from Swedish) my computer suddenly reboots. After that I can't enter XP the ordinary way or in fail-safe mode.

I think this has something to do with my graphics card, since I changed it since the last time I installed XP, and that time it worked like it's supposed to.

The Computer:

Pentium IV 2,5 GHz

256 MB RAM

Asus P4B Motherboard

ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon PCI 32mb

I would be really thankful if someone could give me a solution to this problem.

Hello !

Well if you haven´t change anything but the graphics card I agree that it could be the problem, there are more funny things than to install but what if you try to install XP with another graphics card and then change after installation is finished.

I like ASUS but they have a strange way of up[censored] bios every now and then, are the BIOS up to date ?

What I don´t like about your description is that it won´t start in fail safe mode, quite strange

If you just installed it, you have nothing to lose, except time; I would try restarting the computer with the XP CD and try running a 'Repair'.

Thanks a lot for the tips, the BIOS version is what the motherboard was shipped with, 1012, and the latest version on the ASUS homepage is also 1012. I tried the repair option but it didn't work.

I would try the thing with the graphic card but I decided to reinstall 98SE on the computer instead since I needed to do some work on it right away, I will save XP for the computer I'm going to buy later instead.

Again, thanks for trying to help me!
