htsource 0 Posted December 24, 2002 I currently have an older PC that's acting Active Directory and I'd like to transfer all data to the new one or I can set up a 2nd PC and make them to run parallel. All clients are logged in to the active directory so I need to make sure if I do transfer data over to the new one, I won't have to recreate profiles on client PCs. I understand with Active Directory, there's no more PDC and BDC. Thanks for your help and happy holidays! Share this post Link to post
clutch 1 Posted December 24, 2002 What you are probably looking to do is create another Global Catalog controller. Check out this article here on how it's done: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q313994 Share this post Link to post
DS3Circuit 0 Posted December 25, 2002 If you are looking into replicating Active Directory from one machine to another 1. DCPROMO the new machine 2. Have replication transfer the database 3. Split the 5 FSMO roles from the old DC to the new DC, if so wished. 4. Profiles wont change on client machines ... profiles are SID based. 5. And of course, making the new DC a GC through ADSS ... err follow clutches link Hmnmm, thats the basic run down, if anyone else wishes to add more, by all means :-D Share this post Link to post
