Boarder981 0 Posted December 27, 2002 Hey all, A couple years ago, I bought a retail version of Windows 2000 Professional for my previous system. I have 2k installed on that system and I believe I downloaded SP1 for it a while back. I want to use this same copy of Win2k for the system I am building now. I heard a rumor that if you try to download service pack 3 and your hardware configuration is different, microsoft will modify your registry and your system will be locked down in 60 days. I also heard that this may be only for Windows XP service pack 1. Can someone please confirm?? -thanks Share this post Link to post
BladeRunner 0 Posted December 27, 2002 No this is not the case. Everthing will work fine and as long as you are transfering the copy of Win2k from one machine to another - ie, you only have one installation what you are doing is quite legal and above board. If however you have still got your old installation on any PC (and that includes if you have sold your old machine) what you are doing is illegal. Share this post Link to post
