SiGen 0 Posted December 31, 2002 hi i got some problems, i hope u can help me a little... since i installed a voodoo card (5 5500 PCI) in my machine, i've got some annoying problems with the sound-video running same time to give u an idea how this problem is, for example, running music alone in the desktop, it runs fine and perfect, same with video. but when im running music and then i use videos (visit pocketgamer.org (which contains many animated gifs), the music will go slower and so the gifs, the music goes awful, somekind of scratched music. if i quit that webpage with many animated gifs, the music will go to normal. so, i thought maybe it was my Win2k OS and some IRQ sharing stuff, so i checked and... YAY!, both sound card and Voodoo 5 (and many other devices) were sharing the same IRQ (11). So i searched tru all the web to find a solution. Finally, somewhere in support.microsoft.com i found a way to change IRQs and why this problem was originated. My machine was considered as an ACPI PC. the first step was to change it from ACPI to Standard PC, for this, i must reinstall win2k, and during beggining of installation, press f5 and choose standard PC. so i did it. i disabled ACPI in BIOS too. okok, now, my PC should work without video-sound problems, because the sound card is now in IRQ 5, and the Voodoo 5 video card is in IRQ... mmmm it does not appear in the IRQ list! and the problem keeps annoying me. When i go to Voodoo 5500 PCI properties, it isnt assigned to any IRQ! Anyone else has had this kind of issues with the sound and video cards? maybe some kind of incompatibility? thx in advance David Share this post Link to post
thatsteveguy 0 Posted December 31, 2002 Well for starters if you could provide us with some more system specs as to what you have in your machine it might help us a bit more. What kind of sound card etc.. also just so you know the fact that the IRQ's were sharing is not necessarily the problem as win2k can normally handle this very well and personally I would say to address some other areas first before changing the ACPI.All of mine share IRQ 9 and I haven't had any problems that I can trace back to that... not yet at least! Unless your computer really doesn't support it then I could see wanting to change that. So give us a bit more info and we will see what we can do for ya! S Share this post Link to post
