Motherboard Upgrade BSOD

Recommended Posts

I upgraded my pentium III motherboard to an AMD XP 2400 motherboard and am now getting the Blue Screen of Death when booting to XP. I then booted to the XP install cd to reinstall the OS and got the Blue Screen again durring setup. Any suggestions would be appreciated.....

Check your boot order, I bet you're booting from the HDD before the CD drive. I've seen it many times. Whenever you change that much hardware, and changing from Intel platform to AMD, you really have to do a clean install. Good luck.

If the IDE controller has changed without a fresh install, instant BSOD. I forgot to boot from CD when I changed my M/B and was presented with a nice BSOD relating to the boot drive or IDE controller.

I would format the hard drive first then do a clean install.

Actually, I'd recommend a zero fill. When I switched Motherboards, I found that my new one had trouble reading the hard disk.

Also what module is the BSOD caused by. It will usually say what driver and an error message.
