kuntrygurl 0 Posted January 15, 2003 After trying numerous ways to deactive the windows messenger to keep from getting all those numerous popups, I finally found one that works. This is the second day I've had it and no popups so far. I have tried numerous ways to get rid of the messenger service in Windows XP and had not been successful. Even typing things in the Run box did not work. I finally found something on the web that works. I am now free of these popup messages. To disable the "net send" Messenger service on Windows XP, follow these easy step by step instructions: 1. Click on the Start button in the bottom left corner 2. Click on Search 3. Click on all files 4. Type in Documents and Settings 5. Click on All users 6. Click on Start Menu 7. Click on Programs 8. Click on Adminstrative Tools 9. Click on Services 10. Click on Messenger In the General tab, set the Messenger service's Start Type to Disabled using the pull-down list of Start Types. Also in the General tab, click the Stop button in the Service Status section. Your computer will stop the service if it is currently running. Click OK. The Messenger Properties window will disappear (will not be highlighted).. Click apply then ok. That’s it!! Share this post Link to post
