Half Life & win 2k

Recommended Posts

Heya

I work in a internet caffe, so we need to disallow setup of programs for our customers.

I have set up an account with limited right (user) so our customers can't setup disalowed programs.

Every games work fine, but not half life. I can't lauch the game smirk

I have no erreur msg, nothing, juste en very fast flash on screen and nothing more.

If i upgrade this account the user with power, half life work perfectly.

What can i do to make half life work with my limited user account ?

thx

(sorry for my english, i not native english speaker)

I would email Valve and ask....although I wouldn't expect much of a response. You could either look up the permissions difference between Power User and oridnary user at the Registry/file permission level or also email Microsoft and ask.

Hi DosFreak,

Hey I made the FreeDos Team today smile. Yipee! smile I'm an official Dos geek now smile. Okay perhaps I was one earlier, but now I'm a legend (in my own mind :D). All the same I like the project and it'll look good on my resume. Or make me look like an obessesed antiquated computer nerd, either way I don't think it'll hurt to be on my resume smile.

I think the second suggestion has the most promise, but I would definetly try contacting Valve too. Microsoft probably won't be of much help and besides you only get two free support requests per license. I'd save them for something more important than this (although half-life is majorly popular and in your line of business it may very well be important enough).
Good Luck Either way,
Christian Blackburn

You could use runas in a batch file and runas a power user. Change the icon to look like the valve icon, and hide extension for known filetypes. hopefully they wont notice it is a batch and take a peek at the password.

You could also look into a program called "runas pro" it will let you run a program as another user, like power user or admin, but it keeps the password in question encrypted and invisible to the end user.
