voodoo2 sli in win2k not working

voodoo2 sli in win2k not working

thats pretty much it.

i have a whole bunch of beta drivers for it.

the most i got to work was quake2 in 3dfx

60 some fps

but the models where not visible, just shadows and walls

quake3 gets 5 fps at start up screen and i think crashes

when i run the game, either it crashed or it was taking too long to load

but i exited it after about 3 minutes of waiting.

these are 2 creative labs voodoo2's

also, when i go into advanced properties in settings it crashes

well, actually freezes.

i have tried these drivers and got the same result

v2-w2k-1.02.00-beta

v2-wnt4-3.02

Voodoo2_Win2k-XP

fastv2_2.0-2k

is there anything out there that works?

maybe there is a trick to installing these drivers

because ive heard that some people have gotten them to work!

found this driver

Voodoo2.tar.gz

the control panel no longer freezes

and i used wicked gl for quake3

works perfect

however wickedgl for quake2 says

"not a wicked3d voodoo2 board (glide2x.dll)

board with multitextureing required, use the other version of the

driver for boards with 1 texture unit"

it then runs quake2 fine.

thats kinda stupid.

is there a way to tell if its really running sli mode?

and if i have the 12 mb version boards?

also, why doesnt the default quake 3dfx driver work?

ps

quake3 runs 800x600 max texture/geometry at 60 fps

thats pretty good for a voodoo2 setup

besides voodoo2's run 60 fps constant.

unlike other boards that go as low as 30 in some places, but then go up to 100+

i just dont get why it didnt work in the first place!

and why glide is having problems.

yeah, but wicked gl is better than the minigl

plus ever single minigl game does not work

eg quake2

ut works dont know why

also just to make sure it wasnt 2k i tried both in 98

same problem

could it be a conflict with the mobo?

is the bus speed too fast?

also i copied the 3dfxvgl.dll from the 98 driver into the quake3

folder.

i used that instead of wickedgl and it worked faster.

sometimes works, sometimes doesnt.

quake2 eventually crashes if i dont use gl on the voodoo2

instead of glide

i also tested both cards in sli, and by themselves separately

just to see if it was a hardware problem.

same stuff.

Just a few thoughts...

1. Since both cards no longer have upto date offcial drivers, the ones you are having to use are likely to be very hit and miss afairs, hence the rather unpredicatable stability/performance of your games.

2. The only NT based OS that supports SLI mode is NT4 (since you are still using such old gfx hardware and the games you mentioned support NT have you considered using that?)
