gilgamesh 0 Posted March 11, 2003 I have a problem with my Dell D1728D-LS Monitor. I know this monitor will go up to 1280x1024 becuase the Dell site here says so: http://support.ap.dell.com/docs/dta/04036/00000001.htm However, the driver that WinXp gives it is Plug and Play Monitor and it says it only lets me go up to 1024x768. I can't find an XP driver for this device anywhere, not even on the Dell site. I can't email Dell tech support becuase this monitor is from an old PC that I no longer have so therefore i do not have the service tag #. Is there anyway to get it to recognize up to 1280x1024 resolution? Thanks in advance for any help. Share this post Link to post
jimf43 0 Posted March 11, 2003 Im sorry, but, even if the monitor will do 1280x1024, it is not a very rational resolution for a 17" monitor. Also, it doesn't even list 1280x1024 in the Video Frequencies chart, and 1024x768 is only listed at 75 HZ. The best resolution on a 17incher is 1024x768. Believe me, I've set up a lot of cad stations, and, you want to stay with 1024x768. Share this post Link to post
clutch 1 Posted March 11, 2003 I have 2 Dell Ultrasharp flat panels at work. Both are 17", and both have native resolutions of 1280x1024. They have superb displays at this resolution. In addition, 2 of our laptops (plus my personal one) have 15" displays of 1600x1200, and all 3 have very clean, very sharp font and graphics rendering abilities (and clear type along with TrueType fonts in Linux look very nice on these displays). Bear in mind that the monitor could be limited by the video card drivers, and not just the monitor drivers. I see this more with GeForce 4 video cards when you first install the OS, and while you install the drivers the OS then properly detects the monitor. Also, that link does provide one bit of interesting information (or rather, is missing a bit of info); if you check the resolution by frequency chart, you will note that the 1280x1024 resolution is actually missing from it, even though it has that resolution listed as a maximum. Some of the lower-end units cannot pull that resolution, and might be capped instead by their controllers. Just something to think about. Share this post Link to post
mik724 0 Posted December 30, 2005 This may help... I am also using Dell D1728D-LS. I am able to go upto 1280 x 1024. However the ideal viewing resolution is 1152 x 864. I am using Screen refresh rate of 60 Hertz The Driver I am using for XP is Dell VS17X . This driver is already included in XP. However XP will automatically select Plug and Play Monitor so you need to manually change the Monitor Driver. Good luck.. Share this post Link to post
