RedStar 0 Posted May 1, 2003 hello i saw this discussion in XP forum: http://www.ntcompatible.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24276 So i decided to dwnload that win2000 exe patch and see if i could get system shock working on my system. Instead of getting a GPF as soon as i try to run the game, i can now see the introductory cinematics. But as soon as the game finishes loading the first level.. all i get is a BLACK screen...no noise, no nothing. So then i have to use the task manager to close down system shock 2. I also tried it under win 98 compatability. Has anyone actually got this game to work under win2kpro sp 3? TIA Share this post Link to post

RedStar 0 Posted May 2, 2003 there is an SP 4? how did you get your system shock 2 to work? Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted May 2, 2003 SP4 is in beta. As for getting it to work.... The most common issues with SS2 are: Not being patched to latest version. Running SS2 on a dual CPU system may require setting affinity to a single processor. Installation error that requires usage of -LGNTFORCE switch. Your problem sounds like either a video driver problem or mabye the Intel Video Codec? But your videos run fine so that's probly not it.... Share this post Link to post
ConQueso 0 Posted May 3, 2003 All that I did to get SS2 to work in W2KSP3 was this: Start>run> [CDdriveLetter]:\setup -LGNTFORCE Then ran the patch found here: http://www.irrational-games.com/shock2/files/shkpatch.exe That was it. If this doesn't work, let us know: The graphics card you have installed The drivers you have running for said card I would also suggest doing a full install, that way the CD isn't used as much past the initial "Xerxes verification". RedStar 0 Posted May 3, 2003 that's the patch i tried. no go i have a geoforce 2 using the latest det 43.35 drivers. Ah well..maybe i will try it again in another year thanks anyways Share this post Link to post
ConQueso 0 Posted May 3, 2003 I'm using a GeForce3 with the 40.72 drivers. Haven't updated to the latest drivers on my W2K machine, as I need to ensure compatibility on that system, and 40.72 are the latest WHQL certified. Also, I'm still using DirectX8.1 on that system. Perhaps you could try lowering the HW acceleration under Display>Settings>Advanced>troubleshoot temporarilty to see if that helps. Share this post Link to post
Alezunde 0 Posted July 2, 2004 If the game crashes and gives you a black screen immediately following the loading screen, try this: Find the file "user.cfg" in the main System Shock 2 directory. Open the file using Wordpad, or any program that can read text files. The document should be blank. Type the following line: safe_texture_manager Now, save the file, and the game should run fine. Hope this helps! -Alezunde Share this post Link to post
