techie32 0 Posted June 2, 2003 I got 2 machines running windows xp (1 desktop using a 3com905c nic, and an aopen laptop with integrated nic) the thing is that randomly both machines disable their nic, go into device manager, hit enable, and it works for a while till it disables itself again. any ideas? thatsteveguy 0 Posted June 2, 2003 try checking in device manager and go into the properties for the nic (right clic on the nic and choose properties) check under power management and get rid of the check mark next to allow the computer to turn this device off and see if that helps. techie32 0 Posted June 3, 2003 actually that's one of the first things I've tried, I've set both machines to be always on for all devices hoping that would make a difference, I've also uncoiled the cable (2 short loops), taking out the driver, so windows would have to find it again with no difference. blakerwry 0 Posted August 8, 2003 sounds completely software related to me..(hardware being set to disable in winblowz..... how can this not be software? atleast partially?) i've seen it happen many times... although not repeatedly... i'd try what was already listed... are there any common links(are these NICs identical?) same copy of windows? same restore disk or something?
