Xenorias 0 Posted June 7, 2003 My first post here! Here's my problem: I just finished bulding a new computer, and I have a loss of framerate compared to my old computer. Here are my specs: New Computer: CPU: Pentium 4 2.80Ghz, FSB 800Mhz, Dual-Channel DDR 400. Mobo: Asus P4P800, Intel i865PE chipset Chipset Driver: 5.00.1012 (latest from Intel) USB Driver: 1.00 (Latest from Intel) Memory: Geil 512 Mb PC-3200 (400 Mhz) Dual kit (2 x 256) Video: VisionTek GeForce 4 Ti-4600 128 Mb DDR Video Driver: Nvidia Detonator FX 44.03 Sound: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer (NOT 5.1) Sound Driver: SB Live! LiveDrvUni-Pack, Date: 2/28/2003 4:07:00 PM HD: Maxtor 80 Gb, 7200 RPM, ATA/133 IDE: Promise Ultra 133 TX/2 ATA/133 controller (Asus P4P800 only supports ATA/100) Lan: SMC 1208-T 10 Base-T Ethernet Adapter Internet: Cable modem (Videotron High Speed Internet Service) DirectX: 9.0a Power: Thermaltake Silent PurePower 420W OS: Windows 2000 Pro, Slipstreamed with SP3 WU: Every Windows update installed, except Q329170 Display settings: Vsync: Disabled Anti-Aliasing: Disabled Every other setting set to "Max Performance" Old Computer: CPU: Intel Pentium III 600EB (coppermine) Mobo: Asus P3V4X Chipset: Via Apollo Pro 133A Chipset Driver: Via Hyperion 4-in-1 v4.47 Memory: 512 Mb PC-133 (2 x 256) generic brand Video: VisionTek GeForce 4 Ti-4600 128 Mb DDR Sound: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer (NOT 5.1) Sound Driver: SB Live! LiveDrvUni-Pack, Date: 2/28/2003 4:07:00 PM HD: Maxtor 80 Gb, 7200 RPM, ATA/133 IDE: Promise Ultra 133 TX/2 ATA/133 controller (Asus P3V4X only supports ATA/66) Lan: SMC 1208-T 10 Base-T Ethernet Adapter Internet: Cable modem (Videotron High Speed Internet Service) DirectX: 9.0a Power: Generic 350W PSU. OS: Windows 2000 Pro, Slipstreamed with SP3 WU: Every Windows update installed, except Q329170 Display settings: Vsync: Disabled Anti-Aliasing: Disabled Every other setting set to "Max Performance" As you can see, my new computer is a beast compared to my old computer. I discovered the low framerate problem with an OpenGL screen saver I have, which displays the framerate when it runs. With my old computer, I could get 95-99 FPS, while I can get no more than 64-65 FPS with my new computer. This strange and unexpected behaviour can also be observed in games such as Quake III or Unreal Tournament. Needless to say, I tweaked evey setting to their "best performance" value. ;( Share this post Link to post

ptba42 0 Posted June 8, 2003 You may want to try an older driver from nvidia, cause I had some problems when I installed that on my w2k pro system. Could have just been me too, just something to try though. Share this post Link to post
Tomay 0 Posted June 8, 2003 First look if all your drives are running un udma mode. Then run a cpu test program to see if the cpu performance is correct. (Sisoft sandra) Check for newer bios. Install intel aplication accelerator Try to connect your hdd to the mobo instead to promise controler. Try to remove the promise controler. Try to remove the sound card. Remove everything but the cpu, mobo, gpu, hdd... Wait for new chipset drivers Wait for new bios P.S. use my advice if you have nothing else left, maybe someone will come with a better and faster solution. Good luc Share this post Link to post
