HawkBoy 0 Posted June 20, 2003 Hi, I just got a new pc and want to create a home network. I would like to do wired networking, but there isn't enough room to pass the wires throgh. I'm thinking of creating a wireless network, but can't find anything that's that good (I've been looking mainly at linksys). Here are my problems: 1) I would like to get an 11g router, but I'm affraid of interfierence. I only have one phone that's on the 2.4Ghz frequency. Anyone know how much it would effect my network (one pc will be in the same room as the phone). 2) Since I'm scared of interfierence, I'm thinking of getting an AG router, but I've read that there aren't too many around and the ones that are (the linksys) kinda suck. mezron 0 Posted June 20, 2003 I've had good luck with Linksys stuff. I haven't used anything 802.11g yet but the b stuff works fine. I set up a little peer to peer network between 2 buildings about 150 feet apart with it and the signal strength was great. YMMV Jim Share this post Link to post
DS3Circuit 0 Posted June 21, 2003 First, 802.11b runs with the 2.4 Ghz range, so those phones will affect that. 802.11a and g will not run into interfernce from phones. Secondly, I have been co-designing a Wireless Campus Area Network for the last year ..... basically "everyone" use 802.11b. Centrino, Apple, and most earlier adopters use 802.11b. Its a comfortable standard so to speak. 802.11g just got ratified ..... In regards to WAPs, I highly recommend Cisco Aironet 1200s (if there is a deep budget). Otherwise most SOHO WAPs will work fine in small environments. Also most 802.11b WAPs can be upgraded to g with just add-on modules (such as the cisco and 3com airconnects. Basically, a Linksys, Dlink, Netgear 802.11G will provide what you need. And if you dont need the full 50 megs that g offers for internal transfers, I would recommend getting 802.11b WAP that is upgradable to g for the furture HTH. Silver-Dagger 0 Posted June 21, 2003 DS3, 11g runs on the 2.4 GHz so it will have interference with the 2.4 phones. Also something people do not figure in is a microwave (puts out static in the 2.4 range) and close neighbors that might have phones and/or wireless routers. Share this post Link to post

Mr.Guvernment 0 Posted June 30, 2003 make saure u get the new wireless system that come with a 128bit + encryption! other wise anyone can hope right on your network! we just got a d-link one here uto 256bit encryption on it 128 by defualt - figuring it out slowly - works good, best signal we get is 22mb to a laptop which is max.. I got the D-Link DI-614+ http://www.dlink.com/products/digitalHome/wireless/11b+/di614+/ decent - have not played with it much yet. Share this post Link to post
