Win98 workgroup

Recommended Posts

I feel kinda silly asking THIS in THIS forum, since i don't use Win9x based systems, but whatever, just for general culture, what's the limit of pc's that i can connect to a workgroup based on win98?, and i mean without a dedicated server or any NT OS; just a group of pc's connected to a HUB or a Switch.....if there's a limit, what is it?

Thanks in advanced.

Ummm depends on what limit you are talking about?

If its the amount of TCPIP connections to a machine ... its 256.

Windows 98:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP

Add/change the value:

MaxConnections=100 to 256

The maximum number of machines in a workgroup is limited to a list that can only be 64k in length. So it will not show all the entries for a very large workgroup.

Physically ... the number of ports on a switch laugh

I am tring to remember from my NT cert exam. I think they said 10 but not sure. I do know that after so many the netbios broadcast gets too much.
