mak-uk 0 Posted June 30, 2003 Hi Tried logging into Hotmail the other day and some other MSN sites and it states that I am using an old browser and I must update. The only thing I have done is upgrade to SP1 and when I click 'About' it states IE6 SP1. Any ideas?? Thanks. Mak Share this post Link to post
lorddraxar 0 Posted July 1, 2003 Eh well in Tools / Internet Options / Security Check the Security Level of Internet If you are running a firewall try disabling it to see if it works better. Share this post Link to post
jmmijo 1 Posted July 1, 2003 Any error code that gets reported to you or no ?!? This may help to narrow down the issue as well. Share this post Link to post
Christianb 8 Posted July 1, 2003 Hi I would like to start by pointing out that you may be missing some new security fix and perhaps you should install whatever updates it recommends. On the other hand it could just be screwed up. Since nobody else is experiencing that you may fix things by re-installing anyways since a non-corrupt version of the code would be put in place. That being said you can also just turn of the check for updates feature: I know you have IE6 so it may be a little bit different since I'm using 5.5 SP2 like a smart SOB (I let Microsoft test their own products, I used to work there and they paid me to test, now I refuse to do it for free ), but you can try this anyways: 1. Start IE 6 SP1 2. Click "Tools" --> "Internet Options" 3. Click the |Advanced| tab 4. Uncheck (deselect for those of you who like lingo) "Automatically check for Internet Explorer Updates". 5. Click [OK] Good Luck, Christian Share this post Link to post
mak-uk 0 Posted July 1, 2003 Hi It was actually 'cos I was running Sygate Personal Firewall Pro. When I disable it, it works fine. Any ideas on how to correct this? Also, any ideas on whether you think this is a good firewall or not? It doesn't seem to have the ability to block specific ports as such. Thanks. Mak Share this post Link to post
jmmijo 1 Posted July 1, 2003 I prefer Zone Alarm myself, but I use this in conjunction with a hardware firewall/nat/dhcp router as well Share this post Link to post
