Dual DDR333 vs Dual DDR400 with P4

Going to upgrade from my Athlon 750 MHz system. The system will be used mostly for general tasks, Word, Publisher, Excel, light audio work, CD Burning, DVDs, and some gaming.

 

I plan on getting this:

Intel Pentium 4 - 2.4GHz / 800 FSB CPU

Abit IS7 Mainboard

2x256 MB DDR400 Memory

ATX Case with 350 watt PSU

LG 16x DVD-ROM

 

The rest of my old components should suffice for my PC:

ATI Radeon 8500 / 128 MB Video

Western Digital 80GB ATA100 7200 RPM Hard Disk

LG 52X CD-ROM

LG 32x/10x/40x CD-RW

Lucent 56k Modem

Linksys USB 10/100 LAN

Will probably use the onboard audio, but also have a Sound Blaster Live.

 

 

Just wanted to ask a question on if there is a big difference between Dual DDR333 and Dual DDR400 with the 800 FSB processors?

How does the bandwidth of Dual DDR333 and Dual DDR400 compare to that of RAMBUS 1066?

 

 

I know RAMBUS is pretty much dead technology, just wanna compare. I have really been out of the loop on computers lately. Last time I was into this, the Athlon T-Bird was running around as the best.

Will my Asus 850E and PC1066board I was getting about 3300MB of memory bandwidth. With my 875p chipset and Dual PC3200 I get 5600MB

@club_ice, I have a suggestion for the ram, get either the Kingston HyperX or the Corsair TwinX brands. These are matched pairs, tested at the factory for compatibility and you can get either a 512MB or a 1GB kit from either manufacturer

There is a difference but not such a huge one. 3dmark scores are almost the same, q3 gains the most. In other applications like office... you won't even notice the difference.

 

But if you're buying an 800fsb P4 get DDR400. If DDR400 is to expensive get a 533mhz P4 with DDR333 and save the money for something else.

Ok here is what I picked up,

Kingston 2x512 MB DDR400, the guy actually charged me for 2x256 DDR400, which is what I asked for, but when I popped it into my PC, I have 1 GB of RAM. Now that I like!

 

Abit IS7, Intel 865PE Motherboard

 

ATX Case, with Enermax 350watt PSU.

Office and programs like it benfit mosto from the DDR. Low latencies, provide faster opening and closing of smaller files

Hey just wondering how the overclocking goes on the P4 2.4C? My motherboard has great potential with OC. If I set my FSB to 250, I can get 3 GHz, I can lock the AGP/PCI bus, and I think I can keep the memory stable at 200 by using the 5:4 CPU:DRAM ratio divider right? 250 CPU to 200 DRAM?

 

I just might need some extra cooling.

pretty well - it is the sweet chip of the C series - some people have hit the 3.5ghz range - that is with water cooling and such.

just provide proper cooling - some good ram

What mobo u have?

the 1:1 ratio is idealy what you want if u can get it, that is why you would buy faster DDRram like pc3200 or pc3500.

The board is an Abit IS7, its got great OC options, good divider settings and voltage options.
