Darth Striker 0 Posted July 28, 2003 Hello there, im having trouble running FFVII on windows XP, even AFTER applying the riva patch and the chocobo patch. When i try to start it, it just closes itself, and that's it... no screen, no nothing. I installed it without the directshow drivers, directX5 (obviously on this one) and yamaha synthethizer. Maybe the crash is because i didn't installed the directshow drivers? Thanks in advance Sorry, forgot to post my system specs, in case the trouble is there WinXP pro SP1 Athlon XP 2100+ 512 mb DDR PNY Verto Geforce 4 TI 4600 Share this post Link to post
ReadError 0 Posted July 28, 2003 Did you try to run it with compatibility mode ? Share this post Link to post
Darth Striker 0 Posted July 29, 2003 I tried putting won98/me compatibility... didn't worked... just switched to black screen and that's it Share this post Link to post
Xiven 0 Posted July 29, 2003 http://www.ffseven.com/faq.php In particular, install the movie patch (it's a newer version of the video codec provided in the DirectShow drivers package). Also, try installing the Cetra utility (from http://ficedula.cjb.net/) and enabling debug mode. Share this post Link to post
Darth Striker 0 Posted July 29, 2003 done both suggestions. The applog that cetra does on debug mode shows that the program is stopping (but without error messages) while loading the textures to video memory Here's what the applog contains: INITIALIZE DD/D3D START DIRECT DRAW 2 TOTAL 124846080 FREE 124807168 DD MODE: W 320 H 200 P 320 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 320 H 240 P 320 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 400 H 300 P 400 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 480 H 360 P 480 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 512 H 384 P 512 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 640 H 400 P 640 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 640 H 480 P 640 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 720 H 480 P 720 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 720 H 576 P 720 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 800 H 600 P 800 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 848 H 480 P 848 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 1024 H 768 P 1024 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 1152 H 864 P 1152 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 1280 H 720 P 1280 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 1280 H 768 P 1280 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 1280 H 960 P 1280 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 1280 H 1024 P 1280 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 1360 H 768 P 1360 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 1600 H 900 P 1600 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 1600 H 1024 P 1600 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 1600 H 1200 P 1600 RGB 1 BPP 8 DD MODE: W 320 H 200 P 640 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 320 H 240 P 640 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 400 H 300 P 800 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 480 H 360 P 960 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 512 H 384 P 1024 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 640 H 400 P 1280 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 640 H 480 P 1280 RGB 1 BPP 16 DISPLAY MODE MATCH DD MODE: W 720 H 480 P 1440 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 720 H 576 P 1440 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 800 H 600 P 1600 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 848 H 480 P 1696 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 1024 H 768 P 2048 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 1152 H 864 P 2304 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 1280 H 720 P 2560 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 1280 H 768 P 2560 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 1280 H 960 P 2560 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 1280 H 1024 P 2560 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 1360 H 768 P 2720 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 1600 H 900 P 3200 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 1600 H 1024 P 3200 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 1600 H 1200 P 3200 RGB 1 BPP 16 DD MODE: W 320 H 200 P 1280 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 320 H 240 P 1280 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 400 H 300 P 1600 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 480 H 360 P 1920 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 512 H 384 P 2048 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 640 H 400 P 2560 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 640 H 480 P 2560 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 720 H 480 P 2880 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 720 H 576 P 2880 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 800 H 600 P 3200 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 848 H 480 P 3392 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 1024 H 768 P 4096 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 1152 H 864 P 4608 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 1280 H 720 P 5120 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 1280 H 768 P 5120 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 1280 H 960 P 5120 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 1280 H 1024 P 5120 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 1360 H 768 P 5440 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 1600 H 900 P 6400 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 1600 H 1024 P 6400 RGB 1 BPP 32 DD MODE: W 1600 H 1200 P 6400 RGB 1 BPP 32 Ramp Emulation Microsoft Direct3D Mono(Ramp) Software Emulation RGB Emulation Microsoft Direct3D RGB Software Emulation Direct3D HAL Microsoft Direct3D Hardware acceleration through Direct3D HAL EXCLUSIVE MODE 16-BIT Z BUFFER CREATED IN HW HAL HEL TEXTURE FORMATS: PALETTE 1 BITS 8 RGBA 0:0:0:0 PALETTE 0 BITS 16 RGBA 5:6:5:0 PALETTE 0 BITS 16 RGBA 5:5:5:0 PALETTE 0 BITS 16 RGBA 5:5:5:1 PALETTE 0 BITS 16 RGBA 4:4:4:4 PALETTE 0 BITS 32 RGBA 8:8:8:0 PALETTE 0 BITS 32 RGBA 8:8:8:8 INITIALIZE D3D 2 VIEWPORT INITIALIZE VIEWPORT 2 INITIALIZE LOCK UNLOCK TEST MATRIX INITIALIZE INITIALIZE DD/D3D END ERROR: COULD NOT OPEN FILE D:\Final Fantasy VII\ff7input.cfg initializing sound... creating dsound primary buffer reading audio file loading static sounds sound initialized INITIALIZING MIDI... selecting device 1:SB Live! Xiven 0 Posted July 29, 2003 Make sure you have not ticked the NVIDIA box in the FF7 Configuration utility. Doing so under Windows NT does not work. Also, I tried it just now and my APP.LOG ended in the same way (repeated "TEXTURE LOADED INTO VIDEO MEMORY") Share this post Link to post
Darth Striker 0 Posted July 29, 2003 Done that, and it doesn't show any movies. if i start pressing buttons after i run it, it takes me to the New Game/Continue screen... once i select new game, a black screen comes and stays. Im going to check with some saved games and post the results. Share this post Link to post
Darth Striker 0 Posted July 29, 2003 it seems the problem is in the movies, eve media player can't open the movies from the cd. i started a new game and waited a while to see if something happened... nothing. Any fix for this? BTW, i couldn't find any of my old saved games, can someone send one to me, just to check if that is the problem? darth_striker@hotmail.com Share this post Link to post
Xiven 0 Posted July 30, 2003 The only fix I know of is to install the upside-down movie patch which you say you've already done... I just uploaded my saved games to http://www.ffseven.com/saves.php Share this post Link to post
Darth Striker 0 Posted July 30, 2003 Using your saved games, i tested the game again, and it works perfectly. I just reinstalled the directshow codecs from the FF7 installation disk, but the movies still wont work. Maybe it's because i have a lot of codecs installed on my machine, that some of them are causing some conflicts? Share this post Link to post
Xiven 0 Posted July 30, 2003 Ok, please confirm that you have installed the upside-down movie patch - you want that, not the directshow drivers off the cd. This has worked for everyone else I have talked to. Other than that, I really have no other suggestions. Share this post Link to post
Darth Striker 0 Posted July 31, 2003 more than likely the problem resides in some codec conflict. after i reinstalled the fix for the upside down movies, WMP will crash and even the explorar will crash if i try to open the movies directly.. As for the game, it still gets on a black screen instead of playing any movies Share this post Link to post
Darth Striker 0 Posted July 31, 2003 indeed, it was a codec conflict. after i uninstalled the ACE codec pack, the videos worked perfectly... now the problem is, that the sound effects aren't working BTW, someone knows how to use soundfonts in windows xp? i got a sb live! 5.1, and the midi soundfonts used with FF7 are a lot better than the default midis. leer317 0 Posted July 19, 2004 hello! I know this thread has been idle for almost a year. I just found this site while googling. I solved the exact same problem with the movie by disabling the Windows Compatability thing... or I changed it back to WinXP. I forgot which one... but the Windows Compatibility thing set to Win98/ME didn't allow the video to work for me either. Share this post Link to post
