wolfyDolf 0 Posted August 6, 2003 I've recently bought a new ECS desknote A980 : P4 2,4 fsb 533 512 MB DDR (333) ONBOARD GRAPHICS, SOUND , MODEM, LAN Everything was fine 'till i started to install the WINDOWS XP Professional. All went successully 'till the screen with INSTALLING DEVICES and a progress bar under it. The progress bar didn't stop (it went fine a couple of minutes) but suddenly an error message appears (a window with OK) : "Windows can't install the (X) Device ......" where (X) : Display , Modem , Keyboard , Mouse , etc. I clicked ok ok ok ok ok ok and then the BLUE SCREEN appears with this message "kernel_in_data_page_error" or something like that. It said also something about win32k.sys and some memory adresses and "Beginning of memory dump .. Memory dump complete." Here's what i've tried to do : - i've changed the memory with the same type I had and it still didn't work (the same message appeared) - i've tried to update my bios with some patches over the internet but it still won't work (the same message) - i've tried to install win2k and it installed successfully but when i've tried to do work after a while, the desknote restarted without an error message and when i've tried to install my modem it appeared the same blue screen Please help me .. I don't know what to do anymore .. And I really like XP Waiting for your suggestions .. THANK YOU . Share this post Link to post
sapiens74 0 Posted August 6, 2003 Disable all onboard devices except video. That includes parallel and serial ports Pull any additional cards out. Make sure you have 2 sticks of ram, try 11 at a time. Install windows xp, after formatting fresh using NTFS. If you get errors, try the other stick of ram and try again. Share this post Link to post

sapiens74 0 Posted August 6, 2003 http://search.microsoft.com/search/results.aspx?st=b&qu=0x0000007A&view=en-us seems to be related to the hard drive controller What chipset does it use? Share this post Link to post
wolfyDolf 0 Posted August 6, 2003 Chipset The A980 features the SiS651/962 chipset with integrated 256-bit 3D graphics accelerator for Intel Pentium 4 processors. The graphics accelerator supports a shared memory size of up to 64MB, and also supports advanced hardware acceleration for DVD playback. The AGP 4X interface ensures crisp and clear graphics quality, while the chipset’s Ultra-AGPII technology interconnects the integrated VGA chip and memory controller, allowing data transfer rates up to 2GB per second. SiS' special MuTIOL technology provides 533MB/s bandwidth to connect the chipset's north bridge and south bridge. This is what i've found on the producer site ... My HDD is an IBM 4,80 Gb ATA 66 ... I saw what you found on the microsoft site ... but I had once installed on this Hdd on another laptop windows xp and i didn't get no error. Though .... it may be the HDD But i'm not totally convinced on this one ... because as i said earlier i had windows xp installed on this hdd Share this post Link to post

sapiens74 0 Posted August 6, 2003 I had an issue with XP and mY radeon 7000 Card, the drivers provided by MS were faulty and would cause the system to crash Share this post Link to post
duhmez 0 Posted August 7, 2003 here you go, This sounds like your problem, sort of. it s same eror as a problem with win2k and ata 66, so i recommend you do option 2, press f6 during setup and use an updated driver, and hope it gets through it. http://www.jsifaq.com/SUBG/TIP3100/rh3135.htm Share this post Link to post
chhreese 0 Posted May 28, 2004 I realize it's been awhile since anyone has added to this thread, but I also just got a Desknote A980 and I have the exact same problem with installing XP. I've tried to do what it outlined here, but I can't seem to get it to work. Specifically, I can't get ahold of a txtsetup.oem file to go along with the drivers. If anyone's figured this one out and gotten XP on this thing, I would appreciate hearing about it. Share this post Link to post
