Tim Bazzinett 0 Posted January 15, 2000 If you control-alt-delete, you should see a menu with a task manager button. Open that up and you should see the middle tab of processes. Then open that up and there should be a button for set affinity. That is only there if the operating system finds more than one processor in your system. Share this post Link to post
foxman98 0 Posted January 15, 2000 an easier way to do it would be right clicking on the start bar, select task manager, and goto thje performance tab. if you have two cpu use graphs, you are good to go. cheers, steve Share this post Link to post
foxman98 0 Posted January 15, 2000 on a side note, and this is a rant, it nevetr ceases to amaze me. No offense to the original poster, but you must have some idea on how to check for two cpu's? it seems nowadays too many people have too much money to spend on something they don't fully understand. Just recently I was talking to my friend who owns a comptuer shop..... Someone came in and wanted a dual proc system (young kid who had persudaded parents). my friends makes the system willingly, hey, money is good. coupla weeks later kid comes in i guess asking why other systems w/ two procs are outperforming him on benchmarks (which IMO indiciate jack **** about computer performance). Turns out he is running 98. sigh. I dunno. I'm gonna stop rantying as this isn't the place. I guess my visit to compusa a few mins ago put me in a bad mood. Talk about clueless people. Me:"I'd like 128MB DIMM". Guy:"You'll need two of em they go in pairs." Me;"No. They do not. SIMMS do." Guy:"Oh really?". Doh. Come on people.... Cheers, Steve Share this post Link to post

Tim Bazzinett 0 Posted January 16, 2000 Foxman98, you have a vey good point. I hear a lot of workers at the job I just left saying that they are looking forward to win2k pro on thier machines. Most of them have never worked on an NT workstation and only use 98/95 for use of email and MS Word. I want to see how many forget the password for the admistrators account on the first install and wonder why they cant get into their machines. As a network admin, I cant count how many times I have reset passwords for users that changed their passwords prior to going on vacation. Most of them will never understand event viewer messages or the functions of computer manager. Smitty, did you use ADAM to handle your divorce to get all that money? LOL [This message has been edited by Tim Bazzinett (edited 16 January 2000).] Share this post Link to post
ThC 129 0 Posted January 16, 2000 Foxman you just made my day that much better with that CompUSA comment. I can guess we will be getting more posts in the following weeks once people start getting Win2K machines. Most people will be asking very easy to answer questions like how come when I press control alt delete I can close a program. I think we will also be hearing how come my system runs slower in Win2K than in 98. Oh great I wont even need to study for the MCSE test if I decide to take it after answering half the newbies' posts on here Share this post Link to post
