Page File Problem

Recommended Posts

hey all...

i recently added more ram and now i have 512MB of ram.

i disabled the page file and everything was fine until one day i played a 3D game and there was a virtual memory problem..

i then turned the page file back on..BUT here comes my problem, i set it to 384-768MB on Drive E and a page file is initally created on Drive E ,

BUT on the next boot the page file is on Drive C and its size is 768MB..!!

how can i permanently set it on Drive E ???

(I DuaL Boot, and win xp is on drive E)

You might have to go into the registry to change it. Start Regedit and go to

HKLM\SYSTEM\CCS\ControlSession Manager\Memory Management

Double-click PagingFiles. The entry will appear as C:\pagefile.sys 384 768 or something like that. Change the C to whatever drive. You will have to reboot. See if that will help.

Make sure that you log in with Administrative privileges. Delete the pagefile.sys from C:\. It should squak but go ahead. Since you are dual booting, you can get ME or 98 to use the pagefile.sys by going into the system.ini and editing the line:

PagingFile=e:\pagefile.sys

PagingDrive=e:

See if that doesn't help.

Verify who has what permissions to access the pagefile. Does System have access?

i log in as an admin (my account is set as admin).

i don't understand...what do you mean when

you ask "Does System have access?"..

the unwanted 768MB pagefile.sys on c:\ is in use and i can't delete it,

not from XP anyway..

got the same problem as you, solved it already, what I did is, I set the pagefile at E: around 256 mb (depends on how much you wanna set it to)

and disable page pagefile on C: through System Properties

All you gotta do is click on c: in swapfile section, and type in 0 for min and max, then apply. then click on e: and set how you wish, then aply. What you did was have pagefile on both disks. NT can do that, pagefile all over the plaCE.

setting the page file on drive E and setting pagefile of size 0 on drive C did fix the problem.
