bondfreak007 0 Posted November 5, 2003 Hi i have a ?. I just recently upgraded to windows XP and i love it beings i come from windows 98. Anyways after i upgraded my burner drive would work but not my dvd drive, my dvd drive is an Aopen 1640-Pro. I love computers and im just starting to work on them and i was wondering if u all could help me out with this problem. Now when i put a cd in it reads it and tells me like diablexpansion but it will not autorun anything and when i double click the drive it gives me this error "Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was compleated." My friend who helped me upgrade told me that my DVD drive might not be compatible or it might be a driver issue. I have looked for 2 days for a driver that says for xp and i cant find one and when i try to install other drivers it uses a driver that came with xp. So i guess what im trying to say is that im lost and that i hope someone else has had or knows what to do about it cause im pulling my hair out over this lol. Any help would be appreciated thanks. Shakedown 0 Posted November 5, 2003 According to this website it should work with XP. http://www.viperlair.com/reviews/mem_store/other/optical/aopen1640.shtml Have you tried up[censored] the firmware? http://download.aopen.com.tw/downloads/d...tionfun=typefun Did you do a fresh install or upgrade over Windows 98? Copernicus 0 Posted November 8, 2003 Have you tried another DVD-ROM to see if it's the drive? Share this post Link to post
jmmijo 1 Posted November 10, 2003 and another tip just in case, some of the drives now have UDMA supported modes. Have you actually tried replacing the cable with say an 80-pin one or just another new UDMA33 cable ?!? Also make sure your device drivers for the onboard IDE are up to date. If you have a Via chipset, make sure the latest 4in1 service pack is installed, should be v4.49 now. If it's an Intel chipset, check their site for the latest inf device drivers and the latest IAA drivers. Share this post Link to post
bondfreak007 0 Posted November 14, 2003 the only thing i cant figure out is it reads the cd it just doesnt let me play it off that drive. When i put in diablo expansion the dvd shows that expansion is in it but it wont play it it gives me that error that i stated in the first post and i cant figure out what it means. jmmijo 1 Posted November 14, 2003 The only other thing I can think of is a dirty lens on the DVD reader. Perhaps getting a can of compressed air and opening the drive unit for a blow out my help. Also perhaps a slight mis-alignment of said lens, not sure at this point but since the pricing on readers is pretty cheap now a days, perhaps a drive replacement is in order You could also check with the manufacturer to see if it's still under warranty and have them take a look at too. Shakedown 0 Posted November 15, 2003 Do you have SP1a installed? I have no idea what one of these is and I'm grasping at anything at this point but do you have a Windows Powered Smart Display? http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;810288 Are there any entries in the Event Viewer after you try to access the drive? Everything else points to memory. Possibly the memory cache on the drive has gone bad. I'd go with jmmijo's suggestion of just getting a new drive. If I tried to fix all the CDROM drive problems I've had over the years I would still be troubleshooting them! Unfortunately, with these drives so cheap, they are basically disposable now a days. Malaris 0 Posted November 17, 2004 I know this is an old thread, but new members may have this problem and stumble across this. To fix this problem when you get the error message mentioned earlier do this; Open device manager and open IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers Open the properties of the secondary IDE channel and click on the Advanced Settings tab. Change the transfer mode to PIO Only. Share this post Link to post
