k4 0 Posted January 20, 2000 I have Win98 in one HD and W2K in another. They are bootable by themself. How should i modify my boot.ini in W2K in order to make them dual-boot? Thanks! Share this post Link to post
Awaxx 0 Posted January 20, 2000 What do you mean ??? Imagine Win98 is on your fisrt HD (bootable). When you boot, it loads boot.ini from this HD, then it displays the menu. There you choose Win2k that is on your second HD (don't need to be bootable). I understood that you want to swap the order of your HD and have the choice of OS on both. But why do you want your 2 HD to be dual-boot ? One is enough. I have one IDE bootable drive and then 4 differents OS (1 Win98, 2 Win2k and 1 Millenuim) on 4 different HD. Only one is bootable and it's enough. And if you swap your HD, the letter won't be the same and your shortcuts will go crazy. If you want to understand what's inside your boot.ini : go to http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q102/8/73.asp Awx Share this post Link to post
chameleon 0 Posted January 21, 2000 also, you can use bootpart to add os's to your dualboot configutaion, very easily as well as re enable it in case you screw up! you can get it from my files page! win2kbox.cjb.net Share this post Link to post
k4 0 Posted January 21, 2000 Awaxx.. that's exactly what I am experiencing,( i.e. SHortcut went crazy) since both my drive are bootable. The reason why they are seperately bootable is because the HD were from different computer while installing them, and now I got a new HD for the other computer, I decided to put both old HD into one. Anyways, I reinstalled W2K, now in the same partition as W98 and everything is ok. Thanks! btw, didn't really know how to use bootpart.. i tried it and it screwed up my bootsector..
