Phalanx-Imawano 0 Posted December 25, 2003 I have a Creative Labs Modem Blaster PCI, and recently I can't send any faxes out (used to be able to before). What happens is when the fax is about to be sent, the modem dials out, then the destination fax machine answers and the fax tones could be heard, but apparently my modem and the fax machine aren't talking to each other - the tone just keeps playing, then after about 1 min 30 secs the modem hangs up and says that there was no answer. I also experienced this on another PC I installed in my uncle's office (don't know the brand of the modem on that PC). In both cases I use the built in Fax utility in Windows XP (my PC) and Windows 2000 (the other PC). What is going on here? Why does the modem claim the other number didn't answer? Phalanx-Imawano 0 Posted December 25, 2003 Well, the recent fax destination I was trying is my office fax machine (which obviously should be working, at least if another fax machine, not a PC's modem, sends a fax, otherwise my boss will have a fit), and besides with the 2nd PC in question, I tested 2 fax number destinations, both with the same results. Well there is one thing - that 2nd PC, I sent a test fax to one fax machine where someone was on standby to answer it and press the start button manually, rather than let it auto-answer (which was the case with the initial tests - the receiving fax answers after 2 rings then waits for a fax tone from the transmit side). The fax was successfully sent (the person on the receiving end answered after 1 ring and hit the start button immediately). Still, I was previously able to send a fax from my modem to a fax machine without human intervention on the receiving side (and been doing it for YEARS). It's only recently that this problem started.
