xjamieox 0 Posted January 4, 2004 hi, im new here. im having trouble with burning cds. i have a ARW4420 - Actima drive. Went I went to the device manager it says that everything is working correctly. my computer can read the cds and know that something is in there. however, i use musicmatch 8.0 (the best for burning music cds in my opinion). i ripped a cd and wanted to make a copy of it. it ripped it fine, so that tells me everything is connected correctly. just to make sure i went on the website to make sure everything was connected correctly and it was. i figured i might as well install the driver, just in case. when i tried installing it an error message came up saying virtual device driver format in the registry is invalid. close or ignore. when i pressed ignore it said: IDE CD-ROM Device Driver Installation Program Ver. 3.02 It is a must to have MSCDEX.EXE in your system for CD-ROM drive to be operatable. If your DOS version is equal or above 5.0, this file will be in your DOS directory. For user with DOS version under 5.0, - Please contact the local proper representative to get a copy of MSCDEX.EXE(version 2.22 or above). - Copy MSCDEX.EXE file under DOS directory(ex., c:\DOS). Please input the directory which contains MSCDEX.EXE file to the dialog box and press ENTER. Otherwise, press ESC to exit. i have no idea what any of this means. please help! it will be greatly appreciated! Share this post Link to post
Tomay 0 Posted January 4, 2004 You don't need any drivers for most cd-roms, cd-rw's. What you downloaded is a dos driver. You only need it for dos or win 3.x. Share this post Link to post
jmmijo 1 Posted January 5, 2004 Be sure to edit both your config.sys/nt and autoexec.bat/nt files and rem out the lines that refer to mscdex.exe, which is in the autoexec file and the drivername.sys reference in the config file. You can also delete these lines as they are not required under Win 9x or any flavor of NT Share this post Link to post

hik 0 Posted January 5, 2004 Dear X, Do not use any extra DOS drivers if you are working with Win98 or win ME or XP ! It will confuse the OS and not solve your problem. I (and NERO's help forum http://www.nero.com/en/helptool/333.htm) advise you to upgrade your firmware of your ARW4420 to version 1.3 . To check which firmware your W4420 is using at the moment you can download a useful utility at http://www.nero.com/en/631940826989307.html That probably will solve the problem. Read the upgrade instructions and take the CD-disc out of the tray before you flash your cd drive and hope for no powerfailure during flashing. The new firmware is to get at http://forum.firmware-flash.com/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1312 Reboot after flashing. Good luck Hidde Kuiper Share this post Link to post
