W2K / TNT / Detonator 3.69 - no AGP (DxDiag)

Recommended Posts

DxDiag still giving no DirectDraw & No AGP support, as it was under 2167 & early W2K Detonators. I've seen some references here to making sure you are rid of old nvagp.inf, which comes with the NT 4.x drivers but is not a part of 3.69 or MS drivers, so I'm not sure how it gets there in the first place.

Any ideas ?

BTW - VIA Tx chipset; TNT original

Installed drivers while under plain VGA - safe mode

What version is BUILD 2167?? From what I've heard the 3.69 drivers only work with RC3 and FINAL, not RC2....

Anyway, you're not missing much, since the drivers lock up every game I've tried so far... smirk

Yippee - removed MS drivers: nv4.inf/pnf/dll/sys - removed TNT from Device Mgr. - Restarted - pointed to Det 3.69s on detect & AGP/Direct3d appear !

Half-Life at 1024x768 works (although a little flaky trying to return to menu from gameplay)

Now - how about older games that want a DX6 install (Rogue Squadron, Jetboat Superchamps)?

I deleted the NVidia adapter from Device Mgr, moved the Microsoft versions of NV4.inf & pnf from Windows/Inf, NV4.dll from Windows/System32 and NV4.sys from Windows/System32/Drivers to a temp dir. On reboot to safe mode, it still showed the NVidia under video adapters, so I chose update drivers and pointed to the 3.69 Detonators. Lo, and behold - after reboot, DXDiag shows AGP and Direct 3D support. Several tries of just choosing 'update drivers' while the MS drivers were still in place had no effect, but all seems to be working now.
