CpuIdle results!!!!

Recommended Posts

I found cpuidle on: http://seldzar.dhs.org/

Running MBM showed p1:49 p2:49 box:54, this I found a bit high so I thought I should give the program a chance. I downloaded and installed cpuidle, and after the nesessary reboot I started it. My system had been on for a couple of days and was stabel at the temp above, but after only a few minutes the temperatures had droped and ended up at p1:33 p2:34 box:40!!!!

Now I'm just curious if anyone else has tryed this program and what your results where in that case.

Dual celeron 366@550 Mhz

Abit BP6

Win2k 2195

Tnt1

and a lot of other stuff

It won't make any difference with 1 cpu as the system idle process cools the cpu fine. when dual cpu's are implimented it then stops cooling(don't ask me why) this is where cpuidle pro is very useful. I have dropped my temp from 40-43 to 27-30 depending on what i'm doing......

I have an Abit BP6 too (the best)

Dual Celeron 400's

400 @ 550

Abit BP6 MB

256MB sdram pc 100

Voodoo Banshee AGP

I use two Peltier Coolers on mine, both the

processors run at about 31C without CPUIdle Pro, I tried to use it but i had not effects, i guess because of the Coolers, but if you have a dual processor system, CPUIdle is a must have. The only thing i wanna cool is the damned Banshee, i swear it must run at 50C, i ripped off the crappy heatsink and managed to put a Socket 7/370 fan/heatsink combo on it and it still runs hot, its not overclocked or anything. If anyone has any suggestions I'd welcome them with open arms.

I don't wanna spend anymore cash on another Peltier cooler just to butcher it and put it on the Banshee.

Why oh why would you buy a dual processor system just to send HLT instructions to it all the time? Try running something useful like distributed.net or SETI@Home to fully utilitze your processors all the time and don't worry about useless apps like CPUIdle.

My system

Abit bp6

400 @ 600 both with peltiers

128 mb

TnT 2 Ultra

At 600 they run about 30C or so. When I turn cpu idle on it goes down to around 11C! and sometimes even lower! Thoes peltiers really KICK IN! Sometimes only 1 cpu goes down.. and the other ones stays the same... don't know why.. but if you boot up with it on... it seems to work. I love the program but am afraid that the chips are getting to cool. It is taking the temp UNDER the cpu... so the TOP of the cpu has to be damn cold. But anyway... that's my story.. hehe Sometimes I turn on cpuidle and then turn on motherboard monitor HEAT up program! and see who wins smile

First of all, some people don't like their damned computer overheating and locking up, thats why they use CPUIdle, maybe they don't like spending $50 each on a Peltier or two. Its not a useless app at all, its a great cooling tool if you have Windows 2000 and more than one processor and excellent if you overclock. Windows 2000 does the same thing with one CPU automatically. That's cool ASiDiE, i love my BP6, as far as single processors and dual processors go.....i'm never going back to a single.

People don't run sh*t like seti@home cause it tends to slow the F**K out of your machine as it is a greedy bastard hoggin cpu cycles from your other apps and services. It may be for a good cause and all but why am i cooling down my cpus? To preserve them not to have then running some insanely intensive program that will keep them as hot as then can get with my hsf combo. The point is cooler cpu = longer life and better performance. I like my puter being fast and quick ALL THE TIME, no matter what i'm doing. Not slow and sluggish like i'm using a p200 with programs like seti@home running. If you don't like running cpu idle ....umm then don't.....it's not the only thing a puter can run ya know...there's this thing called multiasking....my computer does it very well.

Well Said Seldzar. You have a way with words man. While we're on the subject of processor cooling and stuff, i just bought an AMD K6-2 400 and some VIA chipset motherboard, I have had hardly any luck overclocking it, my goal is 450 but I can only get it to go to about 424 or so. The MB goes up to 5.0 x 100MHz, and I have 64MB SDRAM PC100. When I set it for 450 or 500 it just sits there with a blank screen, should I raise the voltage? Any suggestions would be nice, especially you Seldzar. Also, it will be on a Win2K machine as soon as i get 64MB more RAM.

Bump the voltage in SMALL increments....such as 2.05, 2.1, 2.15, 2.2, 2.3 etc.......

Ok cool, thanks Seldzar, i thought of raising it a little, i just wanted to check with someone else first.

before CPU IDLE pro both cpu's would run @ 40C when clocked @ 517 (94MHZ fsb). celeron 366's. With cpuidle the machine rest @ 25C for each cpu running @ 550. The machine was not stable @ 550 before (voltage @ 2.1, too chicken to go higher). I was going to beef up the heatsinks and fans, 3dfx cool socket 7's hs/f combo is what I was looking at but they look to big and the space between the 2 cpus look to small. I think I'll keep it like this for a while and by better heatsinks when I want to play above 100.

I HIGHLY RECOMEND CPUIDLE PRO for any dual cpu/win2000 combo. EXTREMLY EFFECTIVE.
