Marker0077 0 Posted February 15, 2004 There used to be a icon like every other connection icon in "Network and Dial-up Connections" called "Incoming Connections". This is now missing & I was wondering how I could bring it back. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Share this post Link to post
felix 0 Posted February 15, 2004 You need to run the "Connections Wizrd" again and put it back by making a new "Accept incoming connections" connection. Then you connect to the connection in order to allow the connecting computer and the connected user to connect to test that the connection allows connection and doesn't reject the connection by dis-connecting it. Monday morning, no coffee yet. Share this post Link to post
Marker0077 0 Posted February 16, 2004 What does this do that it doesn't do without it? Is this just a more friendly user interface or what? Share this post Link to post
felix 0 Posted February 16, 2004 If you don't have an "Incoming Connections" connection, your machine is not waiting to receive an incoming connection from another machine, either via modem or VPN attempt. If you don't have it set up and a computer dials your modem, it won't connect. If you don't want people connecting to your machine, don't set it up. This allows people to either dial-up your machine, or access via VPN so that your machine believes you are connected via a LAN and can then do all LANny type stuff like file sharing etc. If you have no reason to have people connecting to your machine, don't set it up. You don't need this for normal LAN operation if you are connected via UTP. Share this post Link to post
Marker0077 0 Posted February 16, 2004 Got it. Ya this is just a standard LAN connection, no dial-up or other connections via internet or anything like that. Good to know though, thanks. Share this post Link to post
