a safe data partition

Recommended Posts

I recently tried to upgrade my XP Home edition to XP Pro. About half way through the installation locked up. I waited about a 1/2 hour before I tried to get it going again. I finally rebooted and got it started again, only to have it stall again. at this point I gave up,& would have been happy with what I had before. When trying to restart there wer no options to choose except start XP pro. No XP home , Safe mode , no restore to previous good settings. Nothing but XP Pro At this point I got out the restore disk that came with the computer. I had all my data files backed up on another partition with Partition Magic 8.0 After I used the restore disk my second partion was wiped out, you can guess the rest of this LONG story. FINALLY my question Is how to create a partition that will survive being wiped out if I have to use the restore disk again?

Thanks Bob

You don't. Most restore disks will wipe all the partitions on a disk. You would have to put another hard disk in the computer to accomplish that with out some 3rd party software, if it exists.

Why not just throw the XP Pro CD in and install it from scratch? If your CD is legit it will be bootable. Otherwise go to www.bootdisk.com
