axp 0 Posted April 6, 2004 Hi, I have been trying to set up an FTP server on Mandrake 9.1 using proftpd. I have installed it properly from the installation CD. But when I type in (in shell): >service proftpd start this error message appears: "Unable to determine IP address for this machine" Why does this happen? My IP address is set fine, I checked using: >ifconfig What do I have to do to make proftpd work? Thanks Share this post Link to post
Dapper Dan 0 Posted April 6, 2004 I'm sorry, I don't have an answer for you, but wanted to let you know I had similar problems with proftp once before. I either never found an answer, or tried several "remedies" that didn't work. I finally uninstalled it and went with the other ftp server/client software on the Mandrake 9 cds, but I can't remember what it's called right now. I believe Mdk gives you 2 or three choices. Try uninstalling proftp server/client and using one of the others. That's how I got ftp working for me. With Linux, my attitude has always been, "Life is too short to wrestle with apps and programs that won't work for you, if there's an alternative app that will!" Good luck! Share this post Link to post
