mjpuczko 0 Posted April 20, 2004 i got a new dell server (poweredge 400sc) with win2003 server to use for a planned intranet at work. i didn't want it running active directory because i just want it as a member of our current domain. so i ran a dcpromo to demote active directory & i'm pretty sure it just deleted AD. every since then it's very slow in rebooting, logging off, etc. So i wanted to just re-install the SBS2003 o/s, when i do it says 'unable to access the active directory'. i'm at a loss of what to do on a sidenote, when everyone logged in today this message was on everyone's pc: 'Message from INTRANET to STARTRIB on 04/19/04 5:56 a.m. INTRANET does not comply with the licensing requirements. Contact your system administrator.' INTRANET is the name of the SBS 2003 server that will run our intranet & STARTRIB is the main server (which runs sbs2000) Share this post Link to post
AndyFair 0 Posted April 21, 2004 I don't know whether it's the same for SBS2003, but for SBS4 (the NT4 version), you could only run one SBS server on the domain. This is because, on the NT version, it expected to be the PDC, and you couldn't demote it to a BDC or member server. I would presume that MS have built a similar constriction into SBS2003. It might be easier to buy a normal version of Server2k3 - since it's only going to be running an intranet, have you looked at the Web Edition? Rgds AndyF Share this post Link to post
[Zyrex] 0 Posted April 26, 2004 I have the same problem with the annoying message. We are using a Windows 2003 Server on the domain but it's not the domain server, it's only part of the domain. (It's a dell poweredge 2600) I cannot stop the messenger service because I need it for other programs. So if you find the solution to this, let me know too Share this post Link to post
