Win2000 crash problem!

I get the following message after the machine has been on for a while:

First you might give us a little more info.

 

What hardware, Os version, driver versions?

 

Run MBM and get an idea of CPU temps. Are you overclocking your CPU or vid card?

 

For fscks sake, give us something to work with, you dweeb!

everything ran fine with Win98, problems with Win2000

Several things.

 

1. You don't mention BIOS revisions or driver versions.

2. The error you see is usually due to either driver or hardware unhappiness.

3. W2K is more sensitive to overclocking than Win98.

4. There are some issues reported with VIA chipsets and AGP vid cards, resolved with BIOS updates.

anyways gluck with ur comp david, try going back to 233 cant hurt to test it out. Id do that before reflashiing my bios and/or any other removing and fiddlign around.

Thanks for the reply JimmyK. Well, I don't mind the name calling. I got used to that in the military many years ago. Just shows you the mental state of some of the self proclaimed "guru's". Well the problem got fixed. I talked to a local "guru" (very friendly, no name calling) nearby me and he resolved the problem within 10 minutes. The machine hasn't crashed anymore. It was a regular 20 - 30 minute occurrance (crash). Been running fine now. Don't need to reflash or anything. Was a very simple fix. I just overlooked the obvious. Have a good one.

Sorry if I ffended anybody with my use of the word "dweeb" - not being an American I may have an improper understanding of it's meaning...

 

Two questions though...

 

1. What was the solution to the crashing problem - dodgy cable, dead fan, Win9x/NT4 driver?

 

2. SHS, when people sign up for the forum, can we ask them to give a bit of detail in their help requests?

hehe come on now fellas, I still think it was pretty funny no need to get serious, hell I was never more care free and relaxed then in highschool, so I have no real point at all in this post, Im sure yuppie meant it in a friendly way like when I call most people goofs Im starting to like dweeb more and more by the minute

Hey we want to know the answer to your problem, 1st you ask for our help and dont give us anything to work from, then you say that "Oh its fixed " and you did not tell us how. what if there is some poor guy with your system and the same problem, now he is going have to submit a new topic just so we can call him a dweeb too! !

You wanted the solution to my particular problem. Where here it is. I am using a Netgear ethernet card connected to a 6 port hub which is connected to 4 other computer and a DSL modem. The ethernet card was defaulted to the pnp mode. It was suggested to me by a friend to run the setup disk that came with the card, disable the pnp mode to non pnp and use the same base address and IRQ setting that was found in the device manager when the card was in the pnp mode. I did just that and everything is just working fine now. No more crashes. I don't know why this proceedure works but it corrected my problem. Thanks to all for the helpful advice.

The error message sounds very familiar to me. Do you have a CD Writer? Or have you just installed some CD writer program?

 

If yes, then go to my other post about how to get it fix. If you don't, well, I am sorry, can't help.
