Linux+laptop=Bad screen

Recommended Posts

first off specs

redhat 7.3 no kernel change same as came

micron transport xp yes i never heard of them either

166 intel mmx processor

98 mb ram not sure what type

2gb less than 5400 rpm

14 inch screen

4x sony drive

floppy

bought off of ebay two white spots to white of screen only when using a gui

okay with that said my issue is this the screen is almost black the contrast is way off i mean the on time you can see something is when the boot bios come up which is like this bright white with black text

how this occured im not sure i had win 2k pro running worked fine okay going to try linux after putting on linux this occurence to the screen changed im not dubbing it a linux problem but interesting none the less, it would be an easy fix if the fn key worked which it doesnt

i disected the keyboard and tried getting the fn key to work nada

rewired the screen nada

tried finding the micron site either they went bye bye or they changed their line of business because i dont get a response

any idea on what i should i have no idea what else to try and if someone needs the mobo name ill check

also im running it off a monitor right now from my dual setup but i mean that defeats the purpose of a laptop right

thanks in advance

SoulNothing, I have a monitor that it way to dark too. You can set the gamma by going as root:

xgamma -gamma 1.6

Change the value up and down to get the gamma correction you desire. Go slowly though, you don't want to fry your monitor. I'd start at 1.1, then 1.2 and so on.

Once you got it at the value you like, just add it to your .bash_profile so it will go to the value you want when starting your desktop environment.
