krm31700 0 Posted May 8, 2004 Hey there, I am a newbie, and I just installed and made my computer a dual boot. What I am trying to do is get a driver installed for my desktop PC ( the nVidia drivers). I never used Linux in my entire life but I am now learning it in school and it is blowing me away at how awsome it is..... BUT me being stupid, when it comes to Linux, I was wondering if someone could help me get this driver installed because I can run "startx" ... also my video card was not on the list when I installed RedHat 7.2, so I opted to skip that. Please help me w/ some step-by-step instructions....the Dummies version of notes please. I have the driver saved to a pen drive at this point.....what next.... Thank you sooooooooooooo, so much in advance for your help and cooperation. K Share this post Link to post
Dapper Dan 0 Posted May 8, 2004 I can't seem to find it right now but danleff wrote a very detailed step by step on how to install the Nvidia "drivers." Here something that will help, but is more abbreviated.. http://www.linuxcompatible.org/thread.php?id=1418 If I may ask, why are you running RH 7.3? 8 and 9 are so much better than 7.3, and I've run all of them. For the best RH type distro yet, Fedora Core 1 beats the pants off of all of them by a mile in my opinion. Share this post Link to post
danleff 0 Posted May 8, 2004 The differnce in RedHat will be that you may need to mnually edit the inittab file, as supplied by DapperDan. But, the link to the thread is; http://www.linuxcompatible.org/thread654-1.html I also agree with DapperDan. A newer version of RedHat will most likely pick up your exact card. krm31700 0 Posted May 8, 2004 The reason I am using RH 7.2 right now is that we are learning it in school and that way I can follow step-by-step in the lab manuals and book. Once I get more familiarized w/ Linux I will be bumping up to the newer versions. K P.S. Thanks for the replies, and all the help. Share this post Link to post
