Rally masters, which AGP card ?

Recommended Posts

Ok having just spent a fortune on a new dedicated game only system I'm now told the game Rally Masters refuses to work due to the 9600 pro AGP card I put in the thing.

OK then what cards do and what don't work with this game ?

These cards are not cheap ya know.

Does the game need the update patches ? I have never used any and it has always worked fine on "every other" system.

OK, I've actually got a bit of info on this.

ATI catalyst 4.x drivers CAN work with Rally Masters, whether or not patched to the final 3.2 release.

There's a catch, however.

The PAL8 textures in the game engine are NOT compatible with the ATI drivers. Disabling PAL8 textures will allow you to run the game. Minus brake lights, headlights, smoke, fog and... oh, yes--multiplayer.

It's interesting to note that, regardless of the settings you have applied to the RM video config, when you select multiplayer, and the lobby executable runs, it does NOT remember to disable PAL8 textures. So it will crash to a desktop with no errors. I can't find a way around this; it appears to bypass your actual settings other than video resolution, which it usually keeps.

So, verify that you have the PAL8 textures disabled in the config prior to launching the game. You will notice blue backgrounds without the RM logo etc. if they are still on.

Personally, I would recommend up[censored] your install to v3.2US if possible, as there were some odd game engine and physics quirks that were ironed out.

As for future updates of the game... most likely out of luck there. No one seems to remember it ever existed. A shame, as I had some of the most hilarious multicar wrecks with friends.

<sigh>

If you simply MUST play this game multiplayer you will find an nVidia-based adapter will handle the PAL8 textures fine.

Hope this helps.

Interesting, the blue background is there when the game starts but it only does it with the system fitted with the 9600 ATI card, and it simply reverts to the desktop once it gets to the picking of the cars section, (the one with the most HP is not the fastest) "front wheel drive seems to be the go" the rest you have to figure personally.

I was just about to change cards to see if that fixes it, odd as a 9200 with the latest cataylist drivers works fine, all nvidia cards work NP.

I tried the game on my slowest and oldest PC an Abit BE6 / P2-300, old 8X CDROM with a lousy ATI Rage 3D Pro 4 Mb card and it runs the game fine, as well as many others, the 80g JB may help a tad with some like Sniper POV and Delta force 2, other good games.

It works with an 8500 ATI card also.

While dissabling the Pal 8 could fix it, I kinda would rather have all the options working, but I'll give it a go just for the heck of it.

Having seen some reveiws made by blind people who gave the game a 3.5/10, I find that hard to figure, I personally give it a 8.5, being a good simmulation of actual driving in real life, I like it anyway.

Thanks for the info..
