zalcretu 0 Posted June 30, 2004 When I booted my laptop this morning and tried logging into GNOME, I got the standard blue background and xterm in a window. Just started this morning. Yesterday, I used apt-get to add a bunch of the packages I could have added on installation and didn't at the time, as well as adding Totem and the supporting RPMs. I can't think of anything I added that should have messed with the desktop itself, though. Anybody out there know a fix? Share this post Link to post
Dapper Dan 0 Posted June 30, 2004 Is this after or before GDM? What distro? Apt-get Debian or apt-get rpm? Share this post Link to post
zalcretu 0 Posted June 30, 2004 It's apt-get rpm and I got the normal blue fedora login screen (user and password), but after entering those is when the error occurred. So I'm not positive if that's before or after GDM, but I think maybe before? It's Gnome-terminal 2.6.0-2 and Gnome-panel 2.6.0-9. Thanks. Share this post Link to post
Dapper Dan 0 Posted June 30, 2004 The log in screen is the same as GDM. If you are getting that far, tell me what happens if you try this. When you get to GDM, choose "failsafe" as your session instead of Gnome. You'll wind up with an Xterm in the lower right hand side. As $ go: gnome-session [enter] And tell me what happens. Also, did you install KDE? If so, does it work if you choose that as your session desktop environment? Share this post Link to post
